Visions Of Atlantis
Visions of Atlantis is an Austrian symphonic metal band from Styria, founded in 2000. Inspiration came both from successful Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish and from the myth of Atlantis, as well as a Pirates in popular culture, pirate theme in recent albums. History ''Eternal Endless Infinity'' and line-up changes (2000–2004) Fascinated by the myth of Atlantis, Werner Fiedler, Thomas Caser, Christian Stani, and Chris Kamper decided in August 2000 to work out a concept inspired by the secret of Atlantis. Late in summer mezzo-soprano Nicole Bogner joined the project, and this was the birth of Visions of Atlantis. A first demo, ''Morning in Atlantis'' was released in 2000. In 2001 they signed with TTS Media Music/Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 their first album, ''Eternal Endless Infinity'' was released. Pirate Metal
Pirate metal is a style of heavy metal music characterized by its incorporation of Piracy, pirate mythology within the music and sometimes in stage performances. Lyrics often use piratical jargon and various musical genres, such as thrash metal, speed metal, and folk metal, may be combined with traditional-sounding songs like sea shanty, sea shanties. ''Delta'' is the fourth studio album by Austrian symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis featuring the new vocalist Maxi Nil. It was released on 25 February 2011. Reception The reviewers of ''Jukebox Metal'' and ''Sonic Seducer'' agreed that new singer Maxi Nil did not reach the musical quality of her predecessor. However, the album was called a solid release and was compared to the style of Edenbridge and Epica. The German edition of ''Metal Hammer'' marked that the contrast between female voices and male growling that is typical for the genre was rather absent on this album, and wrote that ''Delta'' featured straight rock hymns instead. Elysion is a Greek gothic metal band from Athens, Greece, formed in 2006. The band members are Christiana Hatzimihali (lead vocals), Johnny Zero (guitar), Andreas Roufagalas (bass guitar), Nikos Despotopoulos (guitar) and Ilias P. Laitsas (drums). Moonspell
Moonspell is a Portuguese gothic metal band formed in 1992. The group released their first EP, '' Under the Moonspell'', in 1994 and followed up with their debut album, '' Wolfheart'', a year later. They quickly became the most recognizable metal band from Portugal and a key figure in gothic metal. Fernando Ribeiro is co-founder, singer and songwriter of the band. On Thorns I Lay
On Thorns I Lay is a Greek death-doom and gothic metal band founded in Athens in 1992. The group has gone through different stylistic facets throughout its career, starting with death metal in their early days, then transitioning to a blackened death-doom symphonic style with their first EP, and later embracing atmospheric doom-death in their early albums and later gothic metal with their subsequent albums. On Thorns I Lay is among the bands of the first major gothic doom wave that systematized the principle of contrasting vocals known as the "beauty and the beast" style that became popular in the late 1990s. Towards the end of the first part of their career in the early 2000s, they shifted towards a more stripped-down and introspective rock-metal style. Maxi Nil
Maxi Nil (, born 4 June 1981) is a Greek singer, and currently as of 6 December 2013, the lead singer of her new project Jaded Star. Maxi is best known for her work as lead vocalist in the Austrian symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis from mid 2009 to late 2013. In 2003 she joined the Greek metal band On Thorns I Lay and in the same year she also joined the band Elysion as both a singer and a songwriter. Musical career Born and raised in Athens, Maxi's love for music started at the age of 5. She took flute, guitar and piano lessons and at the age of 16 she joined her first rock band as a singer-songwriter. Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen after his departure from After Forever. Originally formed as a symphonic metal band with gothic influences, Epica later incorporated strong death metal elements into their sound. Finnvox Studios
Finnvox Studios is a recording studio located in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, Finland. It was founded by Erkki Ertesuo, Kurt Juuranto and Lejos Inc. in 1965 and is the longest running studio recording facility in Finland. The original multi-track recording equipment and continuous technical updates of the studio machines and acoustics soon made Finnvox the most sought after studio in the country. Finnish artists that recorded at Finnvox in the 1970s include Rauli Somerjoki, M. A. Numminen and their bands, Wigwam, Agit-prop and many others. ''Trinity'' is the third studio album by Austrian symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis, released on 25 May 2007 in Europe and 5 June 2007 in the US. It features American vocalist Melissa Ferlaak. Reception The album received a mixed reception by critics. About.com's reviewer marked strong influences of Nightwish to the band and wrote that the album, although well done, was not very original.
