Virginia's 42nd House Of Delegates District
Virginia's 42nd House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. Under a redistricting plan effective for the 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election, the district number was reassigned from Northern Virginia's Fairfax County to a new southwestern Virginia district formed from parts of the previous districts 12, 7 and 8, including the independent city of Radford, Giles County, and parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties. The old 12th District included Radford, Giles and different parts of Pulaski and Montgomery counties. Significantly, the new 42nd district no longer includes the Montgomery County town of Blacksburg, which had been home to previous Democrat delegates from the 12th, Joan Munford, Jim Shuler and Chris Hurst. Pulaski County, Virginia
Pulaski County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,800. Its county seat is Pulaski. Pulaski County is part of the Blacksburg-Christiansburg metropolitan area. History Pulaski County was formed on March 30, 1839, from parts of Montgomery and Wythe counties, becoming the 87th county of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was named for Count Casimir Pulaski, an exiled Polish nobleman who fought during the American Revolution as part of George Washington's army. He joined the army in 1777 and became a brigadier general and chief of cavalry in the Continental Army. He was fatally wounded at Savannah and died on October 11, 1779. Dave Albo
David B. Albo (born April 18, 1962) is a retired Republican politician from the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA. He represented the 42nd district of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1994 to 2018. Personal Albo grew up in Springfield, Virginia. He graduated from Fairfax County public schools – Rolling Valley Elementary and West Springfield High School. He has a B.A. degree in economics from the University of Virginia and a J.D. degree from the University of Richmond School of Law. Kathy Tran (born 1978) is an American politician who currently serves in the Virginia House of Delegates. A Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, she represents the Virginia's 18th House of Delegates district, 18th House of Delegates district. Chris Hurst (Virginia Politician)
Christopher Laird Hurst (born July 9, 1987) is an American journalist, former news anchor and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the state's 12th district. Hurst entered politics following the high-profile 2015 on-air murders of his fiancee, Alison Parker, and her co-worker, Adam Ward. He made gun control one of his top legislative priorities. In 2021, he was defeated for reelection by Jason Ballard. In 2024, Hurst returned to TV news as a reporter for WTSP-TV in St. Petersburg, Florida. James Marshall Shuler (born December 31, 1943) is a retired American politician. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1994–2012, representing the 12th district in the western part of the state. Shuler is a member of the Democratic Party.
