Virginia's 10th House of Delegates district elects one of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. The district includes portions of Fairfax County, Virginia, Fairfax County. The district's representative is Dan Helmer. Electoral history 2017 In the 2017 general election, Democrat Wendy Gooditis challenged incumbent Republican Randy Minchew; she won by almost 4%. 2019 In 2019, the same candidates faced off again, with each raising more than a million dollars for the race. Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two houses of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the List of Speakers of the Virginia House of Delegates, Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House members by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate, the upper house of the General Assembly. Dan Helmer
Daniel Isaac Helmer (born September 27, 1981) is an army veteran and American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Since 2023, Helmer has served as Campaigns Chair for Virginia's House Democratic Caucus and led Democrats' successful effort to gain a majority in 2023. In 2019, Helmer successfully ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 40, defeating longtime incumbent and Republican Caucus Chair Tim Hugo. The majority of the pre-redistricted 40th district's population and landmass was located in Fairfax County with a small part in Prince William County. Helmer currently represents the 10th district post-redistricting, which is located entirely in southern Fairfax County. Gwendolyn Wallace Gooditis is an American real estate agent, educator, and politician, known as Wendy Gooditis. A Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, Gooditis was elected in November 2017 to represent Virginia's 10th House of Delegates district in the Virginia House of Delegates. The 10th district consisted of portions of Loudoun County, Virginia, Loudoun, Clarke County, Virginia, Clarke and Frederick County, Virginia, Frederick counties. Gooditis lost her brother to mental illness in 2017, shortly after announcing her House of Delegates campaign. Randy Minchew
John Randall "Randy" Minchew (born July 31, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia) is an American politician and lawyer. A Republican, he was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2011, and re-elected for two subsequent terms. He represented the 10th district, made up of parts of Clarke, Frederick and Loudoun counties in the northern part of the state. Early life, education, business career Minchew attended Langley High School in Fairfax County, Virginia; as a senior, he was a campaign volunteer for future Congressman Frank Wolf. Ward Lynn Armstrong (born June 2, 1956 in Bassett, Virginia) is an American trial lawyer and Democratic politician. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1992 to 2011, and served as the minority leader from 2007 to 2011.
