Vin Waite
Vincent Waite (26 February 1949 – 5 July 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the VFL. His son Jarrad followed in his footsteps and started his football career with Carlton, being drafted under the father–son rule. Recruited as a seventeen year old, from the Latrobe Valley town of Morwell, Waite kicked two goals with his first two kicks in league football. Later he was moved back as a defender to exploit his booming left foot kick. Vin Waite was a premiership player with Carlton in 1970 and 1972 as well as playing in two losing Grand Finals. He represented the Victorian interstate team in 1971. Early in 1974, persistent calf and lower back strains began to plague him. forcing him to retire from league football after the 1975 season. Vin Sabbatucci
Vincent Ijino Sabbatucci (12 January 1935 – 23 August 2007) was an Australian rules football player notable for playing for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League. Sabbatucci's mother was a first cousin of Fitzroy player Frank Curcio. Playing career After a year with Fitzroy in reserve grade Sabbatucci moved to St Kilda for the 1954 VFL season, playing five matches in his first season. His first VFL game was against Melbourne and he kicked 3 goals. Vin won the Best & Fairest for St Kilda Reserves in 1954. ‘The Argus’ newspaper described Vin as a ‘nuggety rover’ and in another match report referred to his ‘hard work’ around the packs. Vin played a total of 6 VFL matches and kicked 9 goals. Returning for the 1955 VFL season he played only one match, ending his VFL career at the age of 20. Vin Coutie
Arthur Vincent "Vin" Coutie (28 October 1881 – 17 June 1951) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1900s. A forward, Coutie topped the VFL's goalkicking in 1904 with 39 goals and became the first Melbourne player to achieve this distinction. Coutie was also the leading goalkicker at Melbourne in 1903 and 1908. He twice kicked eight goals in a game in his career, firstly in 1904 against Geelong and again in 1908 against St Kilda. Vin Brown
Edward Vincent Brown (5 February 1922 – 11 May 1989) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Brown possessed exceptional pace, he was a Stawell Gift finalist in 1946, and was used on the wing when he started out at Carlton during the 1941 VFL season. In his second season Brown began playing as a key defender to fill the gap left by players who were serving in the war. He went onto be full-back in Carlton's 1945 premiership side, and was considered best on ground in the grand final when he stood South Melbourne's star forward Laurie Nash. Brown was a half back flanker in Carlton's next premiership, playing most of the Grand Final on Essendon's leading player Dick Reynolds. A twisted ankle sustained in the 1948 VFL season prompted Brown to retire. Vinny Lamont Baker (born November 23, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He appeared in four consecutive All-Star Games. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks. Early life Baker played for Old Saybrook High School in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Vincent Edward Scully (November 29, 1927 – August 2, 2022) was an American sportscaster, best known for his broadcast work in Major League Baseball. Scully was the play-by-play announcer for the Brooklyn / Los Angeles Dodgers for sixty-seven years, beginning in 1950 and ending in 2016. He is considered by many to be the greatest sports broadcaster of all time. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Scully attended Fordham University where he played baseball before becoming a student broadcaster and journalist. After being mentored by Dodgers broadcaster Red Barber early in his career, Scully was hired by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950, and moved with them to Los Angeles in 1958.
