Vice Versa (Funkstörung Album)
''Vice Versa'' is a collection of remixes done by the German IDM outfit Funkstörung and released on October 30, 2001. Also included are "Salt", a collaboration with rapper Beans, and "I Want Some Fun", a track taken from Jay Jay Johanson's Funkstörung-produced album ''Antenna''. It is the second collection of Funkstörung remixes, the first being '' Additional Productions'', released in 1999. Since Funkstörung usually rework the source material rather radically, these collections are often regarded as albums. ''Vice Versa'' was sold in a grey cardboard sleeve wrapped in thin styrofoam, with a printed paper strip around it, which makes the packaging very prone to damage. The packaging style is done as if it was inside-out; the inside is printed (while unopenable) with letters printed in obverse. Squeezing open the package allows one to see inside. Funkstörung
Funkstörung (sometimes stylized as Funkstorung) are an electronic music duo from Rosenheim, Germany, consisting of Michael Fakesch and Chris de Luca. History Chris de Luca and Michael Fakesch first met in 1992 at a techno party organised by Fakesch in Rosenheim. Subsequently, the two started producing tracks together. In 1999, the duo released '' Additional Productions'', a compilation album of their remixes of other artists' songs such as Björk's "All Is Full of Love", Wu-Tang Clan's "Reunited", East Flatbush Project's "Tried by 12", and Finitribe's "Mind My Make-Up". Plaid (band)
Plaid () are an English electronic music duo composed of Andy Turner and Ed Handley. They were founding members of The Black Dog and used many other names, such as Atypic (Andy Turner) and Balil (Ed Handley), before settling on Plaid. They have collaborated with singers Mara Carlyle, Nicolette and Björk, and have released records on the labels Clear, Peacefrog, Black Dog Productions, and Warp (along with Trent Reznor's label Nothing Records). Aside from their own material, Plaid have done extensive remix work for many other artists, including Red Snapper, Björk, Goldfrapp, and The Irresistible Force. Jean Michel Jarre
Jean-Michel André Jarre (; born 24 August 1948) is a French composer, performer and record producer. He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient and new-age genres, and is known for organising outdoor spectacles featuring his music, accompanied by vast laser displays, large projections and fireworks. Jarre was raised in Lyon by his mother and grandparents and trained on the piano. From an early age, he was introduced to a variety of art forms, including street performers, jazz musicians and the artist Pierre Soulages. His musical style was perhaps most heavily influenced by Pierre Schaeffer, a pioneer of musique concrète at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales. Tocotronic
Tocotronic is a German rock band formed in 1993. Similar to Blumfeld or Die Sterne they are considered a part of the Hamburger Schule (''Hamburg School'') movement. They are influential for bands such as Wir sind Helden. History Tocotronic were signed by L'Age D'Or, a German independent record label situated in Hamburg, in 1994 after quickly gaining popularity in the local scene. Their early style consists of ironic sloganeering ("I want to be part of a youth movement") and almost diary-like songwriting, paired with a lo-fi rock sound with elements of punk rock and grunge. n5MD is an American record label based in Oakland, California. The label was founded by Mike Cadoo in 2000. n5MD started out as a MiniDisc-only label, the label name meaning "No Fives, Minidiscs!" But when Sony DADC Austria stopped manufacturing pre-recorded MDs, n5MD changed over to CDs, continuing to release a few 7" records and eventually moving to 12". Much of the back catalog is available for purchase in MP3 format from the label's web site. The label specializes in more emotive styles of contemporary music, with their releases branching between post-rock, post-classical, experimental music and electronica. The Notwist are a German indie rock band. Formed in 1989, the band moved through several musical incarnations, despite maintaining a relatively stable line-up. While their early records moved through heavy metal into dark indie rock, their recent efforts for which they have received the most attention have been strongly influenced by the electronica scene, along with other groups on the record label Morr Music. History The Acher brothers and Messerschmid formed the group in 1989, in Weilheim in Oberbayern, near Munich. Ike Yard is an experimental band founded in 1980 in New York and consisting of members Stuart Argabright (drums, percussion, synthesizer, vocals), Kenny Compton (bass, synthesizer, vocals), Fred Szymanski (synthesizers/ programming) and Michael Diekmann (guitar, synthesizer). Formed in the later days of New York's no wave scene, they recorded for labels like Disques du Crépuscule and Factory in the early 1980s, and were the first American band to be signed to the latter UK label. Jochem George Paap (born 14 February 1969, in Rotterdam), known by his stage name Speedy J, is a Dutch electronic music producer based in Rotterdam. His breakthrough came with the release in 1992 of the minimal techno track "Pullover". He released music as part of Warp Records' ''Artificial Intelligence'' series in the 1990s, including his debut LP ''Ginger'' (1993). Gerald Rydel Simpson (born 1967), better known as A Guy Called Gerald, is a British record producer and musician. Nils Petter Molvær (), also known as NPM (born 18 September 1960), is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter, composer, and record producer.
