Vice President Of Puntland
The vice president of the Puntland State of Somalia (VPOTP) serves as the secondary head of the Government of Puntland after the President of Puntland. The office was established following the formation of Puntland on August 1, 1998, and is held by five officials, and two interim vice presidents, elected by the House of Representatives of Puntland, Parliament of Puntland. The first vice president was Mohamed Abdi Hashi. Establishment and history In 1998, the self-autonomous Puntland, Puntland State declared its autonomy, and Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed was chosen as its President of the Puntland, first president, with Mohamed Abdi Hashi serving as his vice president. Puntland had a single-chamber quasi-legislature called the Council of Elders. Ahmed served in the office of the president from July 23, 1998, to June 30, 2001. The Government of Puntland () () is the supreme governing authority of the autonomous region of Puntland State of Somalia. The legal structure of Puntland consists of the judiciary (Supreme Court), legislative (House of Representatives) and the executive (the President, Vice president and his nominated council of Ministries) branches of government. Puntland has conducted Seven presidential elections (1998, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2014, 2019, 2024). Five Presidents are elected by a 66-member unicameral parliament. Since 1998, the governing bodies have been located in the administrative capital of Garowe. ''Maj Gen'' Mohamud Muse Hersi (, ; 1 July 1937 – 8 February 2017), Adde Musa, was a Somali military official and former President of Puntland from 8 January 2005 to 8 January 2009. Kaah Political Association () is the ruling political party in Puntland. History On 21 May 2020, President of Puntland Said Abdullahi Dani joined the party. On 15 July 2020, the members of Federal Government of Somalia has met with Said Deni at the party's headquarters in Mogadishu. On 18 July 2020, a party conference was held, where Said Dani was elected its chairman. The Central Committee has also elected Ahmed Elmi Osman Karaash as the 1st Vice Chairman of Kaah. Abdihakim Abdullahi Haji Omar (; , ) Abdihakin Amey, is a former Vice President of Puntland from 8 January 2014 to 8 January 2019 and was replaced by Ahmed Elmi Osman. Personal life He was the first vice-president of Puntland from the Ararsame clan, specifically from the Reer Hagar sub lineage of the Farah Garad branch of the Dhulbahante clan. His grandfather Omar Camey was assassinated in 1943 in Burao alongside two other Ararsame men, Ahmed Cige and Haybe Kaar by Habar Yunis clan militants. Abdirahman Mohamed Mohamoud Farole (; ; born 1945) is a Somali politician. He served for many years in the government, acting as a governor of the Nugal region of Somalia in the 1990s and later as the Minister of Finance of the autonomous Puntland region in the northeast. From 8 January 2009 to 8 January 2014, Farole was also the President of Puntland.
