Vavřinec is a municipality and village in Kutná Hora District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 600 inhabitants. Administrative division Vavřinec consists of three municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Vavřinec (187) *Chmeliště (319) *Žíšov (85) Etymology The village was named after the patron of the original Romanesque church that stood here – Saint Lawrence (). Geography Vavřinec is located about west of Kutná Hora and southeast of Prague. It lies in the Upper Sázava Hills. The highest point is the hill Dubina at above sea level. The Výrovka River flows through the municipality and supplies the Vavřinecký Pond, which is the largest body of water in the district. There are also several other fishponds. Miroslava "Mirka" Federer (born Miroslava Vavrincová on 1 April 1978, later Miroslava Vavrinec) is a Swiss former professional tennis player of Slovak origin. She is married to tennis player Roger Federer, having first met him at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She retired from professional tennis in 2002 due to a persistent foot injury. By the time she closed her career, she was a top-100 ranked player. Early life and tennis career Born in Bojnice (then Czechoslovakia), Miroslava emigrated to Switzerland when she was two years old. Fan Vavřincová (17 November 1917 – 16 December 2012) was a Czech screenwriter, novelist, and author. Her credits as a screenwriter include the early 1970s television series, '' Taková normální rodinka''. In addition to screenwriting, Vavřincová authored novels, often written specifically for girls, as well as short stories, detective stories, thrillers, and mysteries. Vavřinec Hradilek (; born 10 March 1987) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2003. Hradilek competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In the K1 event he finished seventh in the qualification round, thus progressing to the semifinals. In the semifinals he finished eleventh, failing to reach the final round. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London he won a silver medal in the K1 event. He recorded a time of 94.78 seconds in the final which was only beaten by Daniele Molmenti (93.43 s). He also started in the C2 event with Stanislav Ježek where they finished ninth after being eliminated in the semifinals. Lawrence of Březová (; around 1370 – around 1437) was a Czech writer of Hussite period, author of ''Carmen insignis Corone Bohemie'' and ''Historia Hussitica''. He wrote in Czech and Latin. He was a historian of the Hussite movement. His works are usually regarded as more or less reliable. Life Lawrence was born in Březová, today a part of Úmonín near Kutná Hora.
