Van's Aircraft
Van's Aircraft, Inc. is an American Homebuilt aircraft, kit aircraft manufacturer founded by Richard VanGrunsven in 1973. The Van's RV series aircraft are all-aluminum, low-wing monoplanes of monocoque construction. In 2023, over 11,000 Van's aircraft were flying worldwide, making up one third of the USA's experimental aircraft fleet. The Van's Aircraft factory is located at Aurora State Airport, Oregon. The company filed for Chapter 11, Title 11, United States Code, Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2023. History The company was founded by Richard VanGrunsven, Richard "Dick" VanGrunsven in 1973. In 2013, the company announced it would begin selling assembled RV-12 model aircraft as well on a limited basis. In December 2017, the company reported that its 10,000th aircraft had flown, an Van's Aircraft RV-7, RV-7 built in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Richard E. "Dick" VanGrunsven (born 1939) is an American aircraft designer and Homebuilt aircraft, kit plane manufacturer. The number of VanGrunsven-designed homebuilt aircraft produced each year in North America exceeds the production of all commercial general aviation companies combined. Van's Aircraft RV-6
The Van's RV-6 and RV-6A are two-seat, single-engine, low-wing homebuilt aircraft, homebuilt airplanes sold in kit form by Van's Aircraft. The RV-6 is the conventional landing gear, tail-wheel equipped version while the RV-6A features a tricycle landing gear, nose-wheel. The RV-6 was the first aircraft in the popular Van's RV series to feature side-by-side seating and the first to offer a nosewheel option. It was first flown in 1985. Over 2700 kits have been completed and flown. The RV-6 and RV-6A were replaced by the similar, but improved, Van's Aircraft RV-7, RV-7 in 2001. VanGrunsven RV-1
The RV-1 is a Stits Playboy that was constructed with modifications by Richard VanGrunsven. The aircraft was the first of a series of Van's aircraft that became the most popular homebuilt aircraft produced. Design and development The first RV-1 was a Stits SA-3A completed on 3 October 1965. The Playboy is a single-place, strut-braced, low-wing aircraft with conventional landing gear. The aircraft engine was upgraded from the normally fitted powerplant to a Lycoming O-290G. The resulting aircraft had good performance, but a high landing speed. On 16 August 1965, the aircraft was registered as an RV-1. Modifications included a new aluminum wing with flaps, Horner wing tips, and a bubble canopy. Van's Aircraft RV-15
The Van's Aircraft RV-15 is an American amateur-built aircraft that is under development by Van's Aircraft of Aurora, Oregon. It was first publicly shown at the AirVenture airshow in July 2022. The aircraft is intended to be supplied as a kit for amateur construction, but as of July 2022 the company was not yet accepting deposits for delivery positions. A bubble canopy is an aircraft canopy constructed without bracing, for the purpose of providing a wider unobstructed field of view to the pilot, often providing 360° all-round visibility.
