Valkyrie (Marvel Comics)
Valkyrie, also known by her Asgard (comics), Asgardian name Brunnhilde, is a superheroine appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema, the character first appeared in ''The Defenders (comic book), Defenders'' #4 (November 1972). She is based on the Norse mythology, Norse mythological figure Brynhildr. Valkyrie became a mainstay of the superhero team known as the Defenders (comics), Defenders and a close ally and one-time love interest of the god Thor (Marvel Comics), Thor. Valkyrie was selected by Odin (comics), Odin to lead his personal Military organization#Commands, formations and units, unit of shield-maidens, the Valkyrior. Renowned for her prowess in battle, Valkyrie is often accompanied by her Flying horses, winged horse Aragorn (comics), Aragorn and carries the enchanted sword Dragonfang. ''Secret Avengers'' is an American comic book Ongoing series, series published by Marvel Comics featuring a fictional black operation, black ops superhero team of the same name. The series started with Ed Brubaker on writing duties, depicting a black-ops sect of Marvel's premier super hero team, the Avengers (comics), Avengers, which operates under the guidance and leadership of Captain America, Captain Steve Rogers (the former Captain America). The series is part of the ''Avengers''-line relaunch as part of the "Heroic Age (comics), Heroic Age". Mercedes "Misty" Knight is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Jenny Blake Isabella and Arvell Jones, the character was first mentioned in '' Marvel Premiere'' #20 (January 1975) and first appeared in '' Marvel Premiere'' #21 (March 1975). Knight is the first Black female superhero in Marvel comics; DC introduced a character named Nubia a year earlier.
