The University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine (CM) is the medical school of the University of the Philippines Manila, the oldest constituent university of the University of the Philippines System. Its establishment in 1905 antedates the foundation of the UP System and makes it one of the oldest medical schools in the country. The Philippine General Hospital, the national university hospital, serves as its teaching hospital. During World War II it is said that the College of Medicine was the only unit of the University of the Philippines System that continued its operations. Thus the Dean of the college then concurrently served as the President of the system. History The Philippine Medical School was built in 1905 at the former Malecon Drive (now Bonifacio Drive). Juan Flavier
Juan Martin Flavier (; June 23, 1935 – October 30, 2014) was a Filipino physician and politician. He served as the Secretary of Health under President Fidel V. Ramos from 1992 to 1995, and was later elected to the Senate, serving from 1995 to 2007. Early life Flavier was born in Tondo, Manila. He was born in a very poor family to semi-literate parents. He eventually moved to Baguio where he finished his secondary studies at the Baguio City National High School. Dr. Alberto "Quasi" del Gallego Romualdez Jr. (14 September 1940 – 14 October 2013) was a Filipino doctor and was the Secretary of Health for the Philippines from 1998 to 2001. He was also the President of Friendly Care Foundation, Inc. Nuclear medicine or nucleology is a medical specialty involving the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Order of National Scientists of the Philippines, abbreviated as ONS, is the highest award accorded to Filipino scientists by the Philippine government. Campos (July 27, 1921 – June 2, 2007) was a Filipino physician and educator noted for his promotion of wider community health care and his achievements in the field of nuclear medicine for which he was dubbed as ''"The Father of Nuclear Medicine in the Philippines"''. Severina Luna De Orosa
Severina Luna de Orosa (born 11 February 1890 – died 23 May 1984) was a Filipino physician and Hispanist writer. She was one of the earliest female Filipina doctors in the country. She was awarded the Premio Zobel literary prize in 1982, 23 years after her husband Sixto Y. Orosa won the same award. Two of her five children were choreographer Leonor Orosa-Goquingco and writer Rosalinda Orosa.
