The 2018 United States Senate election in Tennessee took place on November 6, 2018, concurrently with other elections to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican Senator Bob Corker opted to retire instead of running for a third term. The 6th congressional district of Tennessee is a congressional district in Middle Tennessee. It has been represented by Republican John Rose since January 2019. Current boundaries The district is located in north-central Tennessee and borders Kentucky to the north. It is currently composed of the following counties: Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson. It also contains very small parts of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Characteristics Much of the sixth district is rural and wooded. The 2014 United States Senate election in Tennessee took place on November 4, 2014, to elect a member of the United States Senate from the State of Tennessee. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander defeated Democrat Gordon Ball, and was re-elected to a third term in office with 61.9% of the vote against 31.9%. Lamar Alexander narrowly kept Shelby County in his column. Home to Memphis, Shelby County hasn't voted Republican on a presidential level since 1988. Notably, Alexander flipped reliably Democratic Haywood County which hasn't voted Republican on a presidential level since 1972, but has been trending Republican in recent years. The ''Knoxville News Sentinel, also known as Knox News,'' is a daily newspaper in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, owned by the Gannett Company. History The newspaper was formed in 1926 from the merger of two competing newspapers: ''The Knoxville News'' and ''The Knoxville Sentinel''. John Trevis Hearn began publishing ''The Sentinel'' in December 1886, while ''The News'' was started in 1921 by Robert P. Scripps and Roy W. Howard. A Republican, Burchett was formerly mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. The 2018 Tennessee gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Tennessee. Republican Bill Lee was elected with nearly 60% of the vote. Incumbent Republican Governor Bill Haslam was term-limited, and is prohibited by the Constitution of Tennessee from seeking a third consecutive term. Mae Beavers (born December 11, 1947 in Millport, Alabama) is an American politician and public servant. A Republican, she was a member of the Tennessee Senate for the 17th district from 2003 until she resigned to run for governor in August 2017. The 17th district is composed of Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson counties. Prior to becoming a state senator, Beavers was a state representative in the 99th through the 102nd General Assemblies.
