Umzingwane District
Umzingwane is a district in the northern part of Matabeleland South province in Zimbabwe. It was formerly known as Esigodini District and before 1982 as Essexvale District. Its governing seat is located in the village of Umzingwane. Geography Umzingwane District adjacent to Bulawayo on the northwest, and the north to Umguza District of Matabeleland North. Canaan Banana
Canaan Sodindo Banana (5 March 193610 November 2003) was a Zimbabwean Methodist minister, theologian, and politician who served as the first President of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987. He was Zimbabwe's first head of state (Ceremonial President) after the Lancaster House Agreement that led to the country’s independence. In 1987, he stepped down as President and was succeeded by Prime Minister Robert Mugabe, who became the country's executive president. In 1997, Banana was accused of being a homosexual, and after a highly publicised trial, was convicted of 11 counts of sodomy and "unnatural acts", serving six months in prison. Banana was born in Essexvale (today Esigodini), a village in Matabeleland, Southern Rhodesia, to an Ndebele mother and a Mosotho father. Esigodini
Esigodini, previously known as Essexvale, is a town in the Matabeleland South Province of Zimbabwe. It is the administrative centre for Umzingwane District, one of the seven administrative districts in Matabeleland South. It was originally an estate of Frederick Selous. Bushtick Mine
Bushtick Mine was a gold mining operation established in the 1920s and operative through early 1950s in Essexvale District, Matabeleland in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). It was established by the British South Africa Company. The mine was a substantial producer of gold and, initially, thought to be part of a significant deposit of the precious metal in the area. This did not prove to be the case and after the mine was closed its facilities were to become the basis of Falcon College, which was a higher education level school for boys aged 12-18, but now incorporates girls of the same age. It is located 12 kilometers from Esigodini (old Essexvale). Insiza District
Insiza District is one of the seven districts located in the province of Matabeleland South of Zimbabwe. It is a rural area. Insiza District lies to the South East of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and borders Gwanda District to the South, Zvishavane District to the east, and Umzingwane District to the West. The total distance between Insiza and Bulawayo is 77 km and 469 km from Harare. The district is mostly in natural region four. This region experiences fairly low total rainfall (450–650 mm) and is subject to periodic seasonal droughts and severe dry spells during the rainy season. The rainfall is too low and uneven for cash cropping except in certain very favourable localities, where limited drought resistant crops can afford a side-line. Provinces Of Zimbabwe
Provinces are constituent Polity, political entities of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe currently has ten provinces, two of which are City, cities with provincial status. Zimbabwe is a unitary state, and its provinces exercise only the powers that the central government chooses to delegate. Provinces are divided into districts, which are divided into Ward (electoral subdivision), wards. The Constitution of Zimbabwe delineates provincial governance and powers. After constitutional amendments in 1988, provinces were administered by a List of current provincial governors of Zimbabwe, governor directly appointed by the President of Zimbabwe. Since the Zimbabwean constitutional referendum, 2013, 2013 constitutional changes, there are technically no longer provincial governors, though in practice they remain in place as Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs.
