It is derived from the Phoenician waw . Etymology The name of the letter was originally just "υ" (''y;'' also called ''hy'', hence " hyoid", meaning "shaped like the letter υ"), but the name changed to "υ ψιλόν" ''u psilon'' 'simple u' to distinguish it from οι, which had come to have the same pronunciation. Pronunciation In early Attic Greek (6th century BCE), it was pronounced (a close back rounded vowel like the English "long o͞o"). In Classical Greek, it was pronounced (a close front rounded vowel), at least until 1030. In Modern Greek, it is pronounced ; in the digraphs and , as or ; and in the digraph as . Latin Upsilon
Latin (, or , ) is a classical language belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages. Latin was originally a dialect spoken in the lower Tiber area (then known as Latium) around present-day Rome, but through the power of the Roman Republic it became the dominant language in the Italian region and subsequently throughout the Roman Empire. Even after the fall of Western Rome, Latin remained the common language of international communication, science, scholarship and academia in Europe until well into the 18th century, when other regional vernaculars (including its own descendants, the Romance languages) supplanted it in common academic and political usage, and it eventually became a dead language in the modern linguistic definition. Latin is a highly inflected language, with three distinct genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter), six or seven noun cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative, and vocative), five declensions, four verb conjuga ...

Upsilon Meson
The Upsilon meson () is a quarkonium state (i.e. flavourless meson) formed from a bottom quark and its antiparticle. It was discovered by the E288 experiment team, headed by Leon Lederman, at Fermilab in 1977, and was the first particle containing a bottom quark to be discovered because it is the lightest that can be produced without additional massive particles. It has a lifetime of and a mass about in the ground state. See also * Oops-Leon, an erroneously-claimed discovery of a similar particle at a lower mass in 1976. * The particle is the analogous state made from strange quarks. * The particle is the analogous state made from charm quarks. * List of mesons :''This list is of all known and predicted scalar, pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Near-close Near-back Rounded Vowel
The near-close near-back rounded vowel, or near-high near-back rounded vowel, is a type of vowel sound, used in some vocal languages. The IPA symbol that represents this sound is . It is informally called "horseshoe u". Prior to 1989, there was an alternative IPA symbol for this sound, , called "closed omega"; use of this symbol is no longer sanctioned by the IPA. In Americanist phonetic notation, the symbol (a small capital U) is used. Sometimes, especially in broad transcription, this vowel is transcribed with a simpler symbol , which technically represents the close back rounded vowel. ''Handbook of the International Phonetic Association'' defines as a mid-centralized ( lowered and centralized) close back rounded vowel (transcribed or ), and the current official IPA name of the vowel transcribed with the symbol is ''near-close near-back rounded vowel''. However, some languages have the ''close-mid near-back rounded vowel'', a vowel that is somewhat lower than the canonica ...

Upsilon Phi Sigma
Upsilon Phi Sigma, () abbreviated as UPS, is a Philippine Inter-University and Collegiate Fraternity and Sorority established in the University of the Philippines Los Baños on February 14, 1935. However, this assertion has continuously been questioned as a fabricated story because there is no record of the existence of the Upsilon Phi Sigma in the University of the Philippines. While their own accounts consider it one of the oldest known fraternal organizations in the Philippines, there has been no documentary evidence to support this, and the fraternity may have been created much later. As of 2020, the organization is composed of 230 chapters in 16 local councils and 8 international councils. History Upsilon Phi Sigma was formally organized by 7 University of the Philippines students from the different colleges of their university on February 14, 1935. On May 14, the original members composed their organization's constitution and by-laws. The newly organized fraternity attracted ...
