Rennes 2 University (UR2; , officially Université Rennes-II Haute-Bretagne) is a public university located in Upper Brittany, France. It is one of the four universities of the Academy of Rennes. The main campus is situated in the northwest of Rennes in the Villejean neighborhood, not far from the other campus, at La Harpe. History Creation of the University of Brittany At the request of Francis II, Duke of Brittany, the Pope created the first University of Brittany in Nantes in 1460. It taught arts, medicine, law, and theology. In 1728, the mayor of Nantes, Gérard Mellier, asked that the university be moved to Rennes, Nantes being a more trade oriented city. The law school was relocated to Rennes in 1730. The latter city was already home to the Parliament of Brittany, and therefore was considered better suited to host an academic institution. André Lespagnol
André Lespagnol (26 July 1943 – 13 September 2020) was a French politician and professor. He held an Agrégation in history and first taught in Quebec before heading to the University of Rennes 2, focusing on the history of Saint-Malo. He was president of the University of Rennes 2 from 1991 to 1996 before becoming Rector of the Academy of Reims, then Créteil. In 2004, he was elected vice-president of the Regional Council of Brittany, serving until 2010. The University of Rennes (French: ''Université de Rennes'') is a public university, public research university located in Rennes, Upper Brittany, France. Originally founded in 1460, the university was split into two universities in 1970: University of Rennes 1, Rennes 1 University and Rennes 2 University. Robert-Poirier Stadium
The Robert Poirier Stadium, or Villejean Athletics Stadium, is an indoor athletics stadium, inaugurated on 5 July 2015 on the Villejean Campus at the University of Rennes. It is designed to develop sport excellence on campus. It is dependent on the University of Rennes 2 – Upper Brittany, University of Rennes 2 for resources. It accommodates 1200 spectators, including 734 seated. The stadium originated during the development of the :fr:Campus de Ker Lann, Campus de Ker Lann during the 1990s. Several covered multi-sport stadiums were planned there, but they were abandoned due to lack of funding.
