The University of Indonesia (UI; ) is a public university in Depok, West Java and Salemba, Jakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest tertiary-level educational institutions in Indonesia (known as the Dutch East Indies when UI was established), and is generally considered one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia, along with the Gadjah Mada University and Bandung Institute of Technology. In the 2024 QS World Universities Ranking, UI is ranked 1st in Indonesia, 49th in Asia and 237th in the world. History UI's origins date back to the School of Health Sciences and Vaccines (''Opleiding van eleves voor de genees-en helkunde en vaccine'') on 2 January 1849 based on a decree from the Governor of the Dutch East Indies. Surachman Tjokroadisurjo
Panji Surachman Tjokroadisurjo (30 August 1894 – 16 November 1952) was an Indonesian politician and academic. He served in a number of cabinets during the Indonesian National Revolution, as the Minister of Welfare and later the Minister of Finance. Born in Wonosobo, he studied chemical engineering at the Delft Institute of Technology in the Netherlands. He returned to the East Indies in 1920, and worked for the Dutch government until the Japanese invasion. Following the proclamation of independence, he was appointed as Minister for Economic Affairs in the Presidential Cabinet. However, he only served for two months before being appointed Minister of Finance in the First and Second Sjahrir Cabinets. He remained active in government afterwards, and was appointed as the first Rector of the University of Indonesia. He died in 1952 during a diplomatic mission to the Netherlands. Museum of National Awakening () is a history museum in Jakarta, Indonesia. The museum is dedicated for the history of Indonesian National Awakening. History The building The building of the museum was constructed from 1899 to 1901. In March 1902, the building was officially opened under the name of STOVIA, the colonial medicine school for the Javanese people, Javanese and other native people. Students were obliged to live in the dorm until the completion of the 10 years study. In 1920, because of the increasing number of students, studies were conducted in a new building (now the Medicine facility of the University of Indonesia).
