Universidade De Lourenço Marques
The Eduardo Mondlane University (; UEM) is the oldest and largest university in Mozambique. The UEM is a secular public university, unaffiliated with any religion, and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, or religion. Alice Banze
Alice Banze is a trained social scientist with a career in civil society organizations like Oxfam, and Gender Links and government. She is the executive director of Gender and Sustainable Development Association and a member of the UN Women-supported African Women Leaders Network. Education In Mozambique
Education in Mozambique is organized by three main stages: primary education, secondary education and higher education. Although having a national public education system, several educational programmes and initiatives in Mozambique are mainly funded and supported by the international community. The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) finds that Mozambique is fulfilling only 70.3% of what it should be fulfilling for the right to education based on the country's level of income. Human Rights Defender
A human rights defender or human rights activist is a person who, individually or with others, acts to promote or protect human rights. They can be journalists, environmentalists, whistleblowers, trade unionists, lawyers, teachers, housing campaigners, participants in direct action, or just individuals acting alone. They can defend rights as part of their jobs or in a voluntary capacity. As a result of their activities, human rights defenders (HRDs) are often subjected to reprisals including smears, surveillance, harassment, false charges, arbitrary detention, restrictions on the right to freedom of association, physical attack, and even murder. Adriano Nuvunga
Adriano Nuvunga is a Mozambican scholar, anti-corruption advocate and human rights defender. He is the director of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), an organization that promotes democracy and protects human rights in Mozambique. Carmelita Namashulua
Carmelita Rita Namashulua (born 2 December 1962) is a Mozambican teacher and politician of the ruling FRELIMO party. During president Filipe Nyusi's second mandate (2020–2025), Namashulua was appointed the Minister of Education and Human Development for Mozambique (MINEDH). Venâncio Mondlane
Venâncio António Bila Mondlane (born 17 January 1974) is a Mozambican politician and engineer. In the 2024 presidential election, Mondlane ran for President of Mozambique as supported by PODEMOS party. Prior to his presidential run, he had served as a member of the Municipal Council of Maputo from 2014 to 2015, where he also served as the head of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique's (MDM) bench in Maputo's municipal council from 2014 to 2015. He resigned from the seat in 2015. Mondlane later attempted to run again for the Municipal Council in 2018, but his campaign was annulled by the National Election Commission (CNE).
