United States At The 2015 World Championships In Athletics
The United States of America will compete at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics from August 22 to August 30 in Beijing, China. The membership of the team was selected at the 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. However, membership on the team was subject to the athlete achieving a qualification standard. In addition, champions from the previous World Championships and the 2014 IAAF Diamond League receive an automatic bye. An automatic entry is also available to an Area Champion, the IAAF definition of an Area essentially being the specified continental areas of the world. The United States is part of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association, which held its championship August 7–9, 2015 in San José, Costa Rica where 20 athletes qualified. 2015 World Championships In Athletics – Women's Long Jump
The women's long jump at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 27 and 28 August. Defending champion Brittney Reese returned but was unable to get out of the qualification round. Katarina Johnson-Thompson could have used her 6.79 automatic qualifier in her heptathlon earlier in the week, 6.79 meters further than she received credit for. In the first round of the final, Christabel Nettey took the early lead with a 6.95. Janay DeLoach Soukup pulled into second with a 6,67 while most of the field struggled to find the board. Ivana Španović then popped 7.01 for a new Serbian National Record. World #1 Tianna Bartoletta put out a 6.95 in the second round to almost pull even with Nettey. LaShawn Merritt
LaShawn Merritt (born June 27, 1986) is a retired American track and field athlete who competed in sprinting events, specializing in the 400 metres. He is a former Summer Olympics, Olympic champion over the distance and his personal best of 43.65 seconds makes him the eleventh fastest of all time. 2015 World Championships In Athletics – Women's 400 Metres Hurdles
The women's 400 metres hurdles at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 23, 24 and 26 August. Summary Zuzana Hejnová of the Czech Republic entered the competition as the defending champion. Through these championships Cassandra Tate had been the #1 qualifier in the heats and #2 in the semi-finals, earning her a center lane position next to #1 qualifier, the defending champion Hejnová. The world leader coming into the event was World Junior Champion Shamier Little. While Little had been almost mechanical in winning the NCAA Championships, the US Championships and the Pan American Games over a long season, in this championship she struggled through the rounds, the slowest qualifier in both. Shamier Little
Shamier Little ( ; born March 20, 1995) is an American track and field sprinter specializing in the 400 metres hurdles. As a 20-year-old college sophomore at Texas A&M University, Little was the 2015 US champion. She then went on to win the silver medal in her signature event at the 2015 and 2023 World Championships. In July 2021, she became the fifth fastest woman of all time at the event. Summary During the heats, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago showed they were teams to be reckoned with. Botswana showed immense raw talent but in severe need of coaching in the finesse of running competitive relays.
