The 2008 congressional elections in Connecticut were held on November 4, 2008, to determine who would represent the state of Connecticut in the United States House of Representatives, coinciding with the presidential election. Representatives are elected for two-year terms; those elected will serve in the 111th Congress from January 3, 2009, until January 3, 2011. The Primary election was held on August 12. Connecticut has five seats in the House, apportioned according to the 2000 United States census. Its 2007-2008 congressional delegation consisted of four Democrats and one Republican. In the 2008 elections, District 4 changed from Republican to Democratic, so Connecticut's congressional delegation to the 111th Congress consists of five Democrats, giving Connecticut an all-Democratic congressional delegation for the 1st time since 1967. A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. Sean Sullivan (naval Officer)
Sean Patrick Sullivan (born November 30, 1958) is an American lawyer, politician, a retired submarine commander and was commanding officer of the Naval Submarine Base New London. He was the Republican candidate for the United States Congress in Connecticut's 2nd congressional district in 2008. Career Sullivan was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1976 by recommendation of Senator Lowell Weicker. Upon graduation ''magna cum laude'' with a degree in Engineering, he joined the United States Navy submarine force and served there for nearly two decades. Joseph David Courtney (born April 6, 1953) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for since 2007. His district encompasses most of the eastern third of the state, including Norwich and New London. A member of the Democratic Party, Courtney served as the Connecticut state representative for the 56th district from 1987 to 1995 and Vernon town attorney from 2003 until 2006.
