''Un balcon en forêt'' () is a 1978 French war drama film directed by Michel Mitrani, starring Humbert Balsan, Aïna Wallé, Yves Afonso, Jacques Charby, and Jacques Villeret. It is set in a forest in the Ardennes in 1939, where a group of men occupy a concrete blockhouse in anticipation of an offence from the German army. It is based on the novel '' Balcony in the Forest'' by Julien Gracq and was produced by Antenne 2. The film was in the Un Certain Regard selection at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival The 31st Cannes Film Festival took place from 16 to 30 May 1978. American filmmaker Alan J. Pakula served as jury president for the main competition. Italian filmmaker Ermanno Olmi won the ''Palme d'Or'', the festival's top prize, for the drama .... It was released in French cinemas on 28 February 1979, distributed by Gaumont. Michel Mitrani (1930 - 1996) was a French film director and screenwriter. He was the founder of the Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels in 1987. His 1974 film ''Black Thursday (film), Les Guichets du Louvre'' was entered into the 24th Berlin International Film Festival.
