Umi E, See You
is a 1988 Japanese auto racing epic film directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara and written by Sō Kuramoto. It is based on the story ''Suna no bôkensha'' (lit. ''Adventurers of the Sand'') by José Giovanni (credited onscreen as Joze Jovanni). The plot revolves around the Paris-Dakar Rally, an off-road endurance race spanning thousands of miles and multiple continents. It follows the lives, loves and losses of the competitors of Japan's Team DANKAI during the 1988 competition. ''Umi e, See You'' was theatrically released by Toho on May 18, 1988, and stars a multi-national cast with Ken Takakura in the lead role, alongside Junko Sakurada, Philippe Leroy, Nenji Kobayashi and Ayumi Ishida. Koreyoshi Kurahara
(31 May 1927 – 28 December 2002) was a Japanese screenwriter and director. He is perhaps best known for directing ''Antarctica'' (1983), which won several awards and was entered into the 34th Berlin International Film Festival. He also co-directed '' Hiroshima'' (1995) with Roger Spottiswoode, which was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries. Haruko Kato
was a Japanese actress. Biography Haruko Kato was born in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, on 24 November 1922. After training at acting school, she was signed up with the film production company Toho in 1939, debuting in ' in the same year. She married the playwright in 1946, but he died in 1953. She married actor in 1958, but they divorced in 1973. Kato died on 2 November 2015 at her home in Tokyo, aged 92. Kōjirō Kusanagi
was a Japanese actor. Biography He began acting at the Yoshi Hijikatas theatre Company after dropping out of Nihon University. Kusanagi made his film debut in 1953 in ''Yoake Mae'' directed by Kōzaburō Yoshimura. In 1956, he starred in ''Darkness at Noon'', which was based on the true story of an innocent man arrested, tried and executed for a crime he didn't commit. Kusanagi appeared in over 40 films, mostly in supporting roles, in films such as '' Alone on the Pacific'', '' The Sun'', ''Bee Bop High School'', and ''The Man Who Stole the Sun''.
