UNB Reds Men's Ice Hockey
The UNB Reds men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the UNB Reds athletics program of University of New Brunswick. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. History Students at UNB have been associated with ice hockey as far back as 1880. The first organized game occurred in 1897 when an informal team played against a Canadian Army Company. A second team wasn't organized for another 5 years but, once the Reds hockey team reappeared, the school recognized the club as official representatives of the university. By 1905 enough other schools had picked up the game for New Brunswick to help found the Maritime Intercollegiate Hockey League (MIHL). The UNB Reds are the athletic teams that represent the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The Reds compete in the following sports: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's hockey, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's volleyball, swimming, men's and women's track & field, and men's and women's cross country running. Michael James Murphy (born 20 October 1941) is an Irish broadcaster, actor and property developer. He is best known for his long broadcasting career with RTÉ, presenting many TV shows such as ''The Live Mike'', ''Winning Streak'' and ''The Big Interview''. Early life Murphy was born in Dublin on 20 October 1941. He was the eldest of five children born to Ned and Kitty Murphy. He was educated at St. Louis National School, Terenure College, Synge Street CBS and Coláiste Mhuire. Early career Murphy worked as a draper in a Dublin drapery shop, before finding a job with the Castrol Oil Company. He later became involved in acting with the Dublin Shakespeare Society and wrote scripts for sponsored programmes on Radio Éireann. The Saint Mary's Huskies men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Saint Mary's Huskies athletics program of Saint Mary's University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. History Saint Mary's ice hockey program had a difficult start, though at first it was entirely of their own making. The team joined the Maritime Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1929 and promptly won the conference tournament that season. However, the school's administrators were not enamored by the Huskies' exploits. Three years later, when Saint Mary's had a chance for a second championship, the team was forbade from participating as the final game occurred during Lent. The Dalhousie Tigers men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Dalhousie Tigers athletics program of Dalhousie University. History Though Dalhousie has a history of fielding an ice hockey team as far back as 1894, the school played its first official season of varsity men's hockey in 1962. The program's best period was initiated by a run to the CIAU championship gam in 1979 that saw the team win its first conference championship. The Tigers routinely earned a playoff berth over the succeeding 25 years, however, they were never able to capture a second conference title in that span. The Atlantic University Sport ice hockey tournament is an annual conference championship held between member teams. The winner receives an automatic bid to the U Sports men's ice hockey championship. History The formation of the conference occurred after the maritime schools restarted their ice hockey programs after World War I.
