Queensland Railways 2800 Class
The 2800 class are a class of diesel locomotive built by A Goninan & Co, Townsville for Queensland Rail between 1995 and 1998. They are currently owned by Aurizon, and operate on the North Coast and Mount Isa lines. History The 2800 class were ordered to haul passenger and freight services on the North Coast line between Rockhampton and Cairns and on the Great Northern line between Townsville and Mount Isa. The initial order for 40 was later increased to 50. However, a miscommunication resulted in the builder's plates incorrectly being stamped as 202 to 211 which had been used by other A Goninan & Co locomotives, rather than the correct 323 to 332. The 2600 class were a class of diesel locomotive built by A Goninan & Co, Townsville for Queensland Rail in 1983–1984. History The 2600 class entered service on the McNaughton and Newlands lines. They were based at Pring depot near Bowen, and were a standard General Electric export model (similar locomotives were also used in Brazil, Nigeria and Tunisia). The NR class are Australian diesel-electric locomotives built by A Goninan & Co for National Rail between 1996 and 1998. They are currently operated by Pacific National. The C44aci model locomotives built by UGL Rail at Broadmeadow adopted the design from the NR Class. The P class are a class of diesel locomotives built by A Goninan & Co, Bassendean for Westrail between 1989 and 1991. History In 1988, Westrail placed an order for 15 CM25-8 Dash 8 locomotives for bulk grain and general freight haulage with A Goninan & Co. A 16th was later ordered followed by a 17th funded by AMC Mineral Sands. In 1997, the class was fitted with Locotrol equipment to allow them to operate in top and tail formation. Commonwealth Engineering, often shortened to Com-Eng, later known as Comeng was an Australian engineering company that designed and built railway locomotives, rolling stock and trams.
