UEFA Women's Euro 1997
The 1997 UEFA Women's Championship, also referred to as Women's Euro 1997 was a football tournament held in 1997 in Norway and Sweden. The UEFA Women's Championship is a regular tournament involving European national teams from countries affiliated to UEFA, the European governing body, who have qualified for the competition. The competition aims to determine which national women's team is the best in Europe. Germany won the competition for the second time in a row and 4th overall (counting with West Germany's victory in the former European Competition for Representative Women's Teams). France, Spain and Russia made their debuts for the first time. Format 1997 saw a change in the tournament format as an eight-team final stage was introduced. Eight teams participated, qualifying from a total of 33 entrants. Those eight teams were divided in two groups of four. Carolina Morace
Carolina Morace (; born 5 February 1964) is an Italian politician and former footballer, who played as a striker. She was most recently the head coach of Lazio Women. She played for the Italian national team and for various clubs in women's Serie A. She was the top scorer in Serie A in the 1984–85 season, and for 11 consecutive years from 1987–88 to 1997–98, and she holds the distinction of scoring the first hat-trick in a FIFA Women's World Cup. She is also a registered lawyer. After retiring as a player, she began a managing career with Lazio. She then managed the Italian national team from 2000 to 2005, and the Canadian national women's team from 2009 to 2011. In 2014, she was the first woman to be inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame. Morace was elected to the European Parliament in 2024. Malin Elisabeth Andersson (born 4 May 1973) is a Swedish women's football player. Club career Domestically, she played for Malmö FF in the Damallsvenskan, and won the Diamantbollen as Sweden's top female footballer in 1995. Irina Grigorieva (footballer)
Irina Olegovna Grigorieva () is a Russian former footballer who played as a midfielder. She played for FC Lyon, Spartak Moscow, CSK VVS Samara and Nadezhda Noginsk. Internationally, Grigorieva represented three different teams. She first played for the Soviet Union in 1990, before the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. During 1992, she played for the CIS, a brief association of former Soviet republics. Subsequently, she represented Russia. Victoria Margareta Sandell Svensson (born 18 May 1977) is a Swedish football manager and former player. Nicknamed Vickan, she was team captain on the Swedish women's national team and Djurgårdens IF Dam, captaining the national team during the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, and is one of the most merited Swedish footballers of all time.
