UCLA Herb Alpert School Of Music
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles, is “the first school of music to be established in the University of California system.” Established in 2007 under the purview of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture and the UCLA Division of Humanities, the UC Board of Regents formally voted in January 2016 to establish the school. It is supported in part by a $30 million endowment from the Herb Alpert Foundation. Opera singer and Professor of Voice Eileen L. Strempel was appointed as the school's inaugural dean, effective July 8, 2019. The school is subdivided into the Department of Music, the Department of Ethnomusicology, the Department of Musicology. Akin Euba
Olatunji Akin Euba (28 April 1935 – 14 April 2020) was a Nigerian composer, musicologist, and pianist. Career Born on 28 April 1935 in Lagos, Nigeria, Akin Euba studied composition with Arnold Cooke at the Trinity College of Music, London, obtaining the diplomas of fellow of the Trinity College London (Composition) and fellow of the Trinity College London (Piano). Boris Allakhverdyan
Boris Allakhverdyan is an Armenian-American clarinet player. He currently performs as principal clarinet at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and serves on the faculties of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and California State University, Fullerton. Early life Allakhverdyan was raised in Russia, where he started the clarinet at age 9. His father, Valery Allakhverdyan, was principal clarinet of the Baku Opera House. Allakhverdyan studied at the Moscow Conservatory, and at age 19, he moved to the United States to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, Allakhverdyan formed the Prima Trio, a chamber ensemble that later won the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2007. La Monte Thornton Young (born October 14, 1935) is an American composer, musician, and performance artist recognized as one of the first American minimalist composers and a central figure in Fluxus and post-war avant-garde music. Leonard Stein
Leonard David Stein (December 1, 1916 – June 23, 2004) was an American musicologist, pianist, conductor and university teacher. He was influential in promoting contemporary music on the American West Coast. Kiefer Shackelford (born (January 30, 1992), known mononymously as Kiefer, is an American pianist and producer based in Los Angeles, California. Biography Born in 1992 in San Diego, Kiefer started playing piano around age six, and was first introduced to jazz by his father. Growing up, he took classical and jazz lessons, and by his teens was an adept soloist and began experimenting with producing his own computer-based hip-hop and electronic beats. James Horner
