UCI Race Classifications
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world's governing body in the sport of bicycle racing, classifies races according to a rating scale. The rating is represented by a code made of two or three parts and indicates both the type or style of race (the first part), and its importance or difficulty (the second and third parts, lower being harder). The first part can be an integer or an abbreviation, and the second part, when present, are usually integers. Both parts are separated by a period or decimal point (.). A higher rated race will result in the successful riders receiving more world ranking points. Road racing UCI race classifications are denoted as follows: The first part of the code denotes whether the race is one-day '1', or a multi-day (stage) race '2'. The Union Cycliste Internationale (; UCI; ) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland. The UCI issues racing licenses to riders and enforces disciplinary rules, such as in matters of doping. The UCI also manages the classification of races and the points ranking system in various cycling disciplines including road and track cycling, mountain biking, cyclo-cross, Gravel, and BMX, for both men and women, amateur and professional. It also oversees the World Championships. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the UCI said that Russian and Belarusian teams were forbidden from competing in international events. Tour De France Femmes
The Tour de France Femmes () is an annual women's road bicycle racing, cycle stage race around France. It is organised by Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), which also runs the Tour de France. It is part of the UCI Women's WorldTour, UCI Women's World Tour. Some teams and media have referred to the race as a Grand Tour (cycling), 'Grand Tour', as it is one of the biggest events on the women's calendar. However, the race does not meet the UCI definition of such an event. After a one off event in 1955, Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, an equivalent race to the Tour de France for women was held under different names between 1984 and 2009. Over the years, these races struggled with financial difficulties, limited media coverage, sexism, and trademark issues with the organisers of the Tour de France. Thüringen Ladies Tour
The Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour, formerly known as the Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen (Women's Tour of Thuringia) was a stage race for women road bicycle racing, road cycle racers held every July in the German states of Germany, state of Thuringia. The race was part of the UCI ProSeries (women), UCI Women's ProSeries, and was rated a UCI race classifications, class 2.Pro event by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The title sponsor was LOTTO Thüringen, the state lottery of Thuringia. The race was first held in 1986 in what was then East Germany, and was consistently held from 1992 – with only the 2020 event cancelled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany, COVID-19 pandemic. Organisers noted their desire to be part of the UCI Women's World Tour in future, and provided live television coverage of the event from 2022. Vuelta A San Juan
The Vuelta a San Juan is an annual road cycling stage race held in Argentine. Typically consisting of seven stages, beginning and ending in San Juan, the race was first held in 1982. In 2017, the race was classified as a 2.1 event by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and expanded to included international, professional teams. Taking place in January, the race was viewed as a useful event for UCI WorldTour cyclists to get racing experience early in the season, before the start of the European season. It was called "the most prestigious competition in Latin America" by the Pan American Cycling Confederation. In 2020, the race was promoted to the UCI ProSeries and given a 2.Pro status. Deutschland Tour
The Deutschland Tour (English: ''Tour of Germany'' and sometimes ''Deutschland-Rundfahrt'' in German) is the most important Race stage, multi-stage road bicycle racing, road bicycle race in Germany. Initially the race was held in May/June, but from 2005 until 2008 it was moved to August as part of the UCI ProTour. On October 16, 2008, the organizers announced that the 2009 edition would be cancelled, following the doping cases that were revealed in the sport of cycling. Marketing chiefs said they were unable to finance the nine-day race due to a lack of interested sponsors after the latest revelations of cyclists testing positive for the blood-booster Continuous erythropoiesis receptor activator, CERA. Tour Of Slovenia
Tour of Slovenia (Dirka po Sloveniji) is a five day road bicycle racing, road cycling stage race held since 1993. Between 2005 and 2018, it was organised as a 2.1 race on the UCI Europe Tour. The 2019 edition was classified as a 2.HC race. It became part of the UCI ProSeries in 2020. Race made a signicifant progress and importance with more and more international recognition over the years. From the unknown local third class race in the beginnings, it is now part of the world's second tier level of road cycling with world class athletes. In 2017, when Slovenian Tourist Organisation (STO) decided to start promoting country's trademark, its green landscape, on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, 2, was a huge game changer. Tour De Langkawi
The Tour de Langkawi is a stage race, multiple stage bicycle racing, bicycle race held in Malaysia. It is named after the archipelago Langkawi, where the first edition started and finished. The race has been held annually since 1996, primarily in February. It usually consists of 10 day-long segments (stages) over 10 days, but has been reduced to eight stages over recent years. While the route changes each year, the Genting Highlands climb, the toughest in the tour, is always included. The Arctic Race of Norway is an annual multiple stage bicycle race held in northern Norway. The first edition was in 2013, from 8 August to 11 August, and lasted for four days. The organising partners are Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and Arctic Race of Norway (AS). The race is an official UCI-sponsored event, and has been placed as part of the Europe Tour. Paris–Tours
Paris–Tours is a French one-day classic road cycling race held every October from the outskirts of Paris to the cathedral city of Tours. It is a predominantly flat course through the Chevreuse and Loire valleys; the highest point is 200 m, at Le Gault-du-Perche. Historically, it is known as a "Sprinters' Classic" because it frequently ends in a bunch sprint at the finish, in Tours. Since 2018, the course has featured gravel sectors in vineyards near Tours. For several decades the race arrived on the 2.7 km long Avenue de Grammont, one of cycling's best-known finishing straits, particularly renowned among sprinters. Since 2011 the finish was moved to a different location because a new tram line was built on the Avenue de Grammont. UCI ProSeries (women)
The UCI ProSeries is the second tier women's elite road cycling tour. It was inaugurated in 2020. The series is placed below the UCI Women's World Tour, but above the various 1.1/2.1 and 1.2/2.2 races. , the tour consists of 14 races in Europe and Australia, of which 13 are one-day races ( 1.Pro) and 1 is a stage race ( 2.Pro). Events The inaugural UCI ProSeries calendar consisted of 7 events, of which only 2 ran due the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 the number of events expanded, but again the COVID-19 pandemic let to multiple cancellations, with only 6 events running. Some races (such as Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Women's Tour Down Under) have subsequently moved to the UCI Women's World Tour. The UCI ProSeries is the second tier men's elite road bicycle racer, road cycling tour. It was inaugurated in 2020 UCI ProSeries, 2020. The series is placed below the UCI World Tour, but above the various regional UCI Continental Circuits. Development In December 2018, the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI announced various reforms to the structure and organisation of men's professional road racing. One of the major changes is the introduction of a new division of races called the UCI ProSeries. With the introduction of the ProSeries, the UCI .HC road races disappeared from the calendar. In October 2019, the UCI published the 2020 UCI International Road Calendar, including the ProSeries. The inaugural season of the ProSeries was planned to include 57 events, which were formerly World Tour, .HC or .1 events, but many were cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic of 2020–21.
