UCF Knights Men's Soccer
The UCF Knights men's soccer team represents the University of Central Florida in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I. As of the next NCAA men's soccer season in 2023, the Knights compete in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). This coincides with UCF's July 2023 move from the American Athletic Conference (The American), a league in which it had been a member since 2013, to the Big 12 Conference, which sponsors soccer only for women. They play their home games on UCF's main campus in Orlando, Florida at the UCF Soccer and Track Stadium. The Knights are currently led by head coach Scott Calabrese. History The Knights soccer program began in 1975 under Jim Rudy. The Knights went 10–4–1 that year, defeating St. Leo in their first match 8–0. In 1984, the team made the move to Division I. Scott Calabrese
Louis Scott Calabrese (born June 2, 1972) is an American former soccer goalkeeper who is currently the head men's soccer coach at University of Central Florida. Playing career Calabrese attended Bryant University from 1990 to 1995. During this time, he was a four-year letterman and earned All-Conference honors while playing goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. After graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in business administration, Calabrese played professionally for the Rhode Island Stingrays from 1995 to 1997 and for the South Carolina Shamrocks in 1998. Coaching career While still playing, Calabrese started his coaching career as an assistant and goalkeeper coach at Western Connecticut State University in 1995 and then at Southern Wesleyan University from 1997 to 1998. Ryan McIntosh (soccer)
Ryan McIntosh (born March 19, 1983, in Hollywood, Florida, Hollywood, Florida) is a former American soccer goalkeeper (football), goalkeeper. Early life and education McIntosh grew up in South Florida playing on travel teams becoming one of the top youth goalkeepers in the State of Florida by the time he graduated from high school. He was selected to the Florida State ODP Team prior to his senior year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. During his senior year, he posted .62 Goals against average, GAA and 17 shutouts, which helped lead his team to the Florida State Semi-Finals. He went on to play college soccer for the University of Central Florida from 2002 to 2005. As a redshirt freshman, he earned the starting goalkeeper position and was voted to be a captain. 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup
The 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup was the 17th edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which was hosted by Egypt from 24 September to 16 October 2009. The tournament was initially going to take place between 10 and 31 July. However, the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup was played mid-year, resulting in both that year's U-20 and U-17 World Cups being played at the end of the year. The tournament was won by Ghana after they defeated Brazil on penalties in the final, becoming the first African team to win the tournament. United States U-20 Men's National Soccer Team
The United States U-20 men's national soccer team is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation. The highest level of competition in which the team competes is the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is held every two years. The United States' best finish came in the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship, when the U.S. beat Iraq in the quarterfinal before losing to Nigeria in overtime in the semifinal and Brazil in the third-place match. Steve Snow tied for second in the tournament with three goals. The U.S. reached the quarterfinals in 1993 but lost to Brazil. Orlando City Soccer Club is an American professional soccer club based in Orlando, Florida. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference. Cal Jennings (born May 17, 1997) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Charleston Battery in the USL Championship. Early life and college Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Jennings attended Roswell High School where he played two seasons for the school's soccer team. He also spent a season with U.S. Soccer Development Academy club Georgia United. After graduating high school, Jennings enrolled at the University of Central Florida and joined the UCF Knights college soccer team. MLS SuperDraft
The MLS SuperDraft is an annual Draft (sports), college draft for teams of Major League Soccer in the United States and Canada in which MLS clubs take turns selecting from a pool of eligible amateur players. These drafted players usually come from university teams competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It takes place in January and is used by teams to select players who have graduated from college or otherwise been signed by the league. The Atlanta Silverbacks FC were an American professional soccer club based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1998 as Atlanta Ruckus, the club played in many leagues over the years before folding after the 2015 season. The team played its home games at Atlanta Silverbacks Park, a large soccer complex featuring a 5,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Atlanta, 15 miles northeast of downtown.
