Trevor Horne (New Zealand Politician)
Trevor Freeman Horne (30 September 1920 – 3 July 1991) was a New Zealand politician. He served as mayor of Nelson from 1968 to 1971. Early life and family Horne was born in Christchurch. He was the son of Freeman Horne and Mable Smith. He was educated at Gisborne Boys' High School. In 1951 he married Ngaire Johnston and they had two children, a boy and a girl. Career He began work in 1935 as a clerk with a public accountant, joined the Farmers Co-op in 1936, and in 1937 became an apprentice cabinet maker. After the Second World War he formed his own tourism business and was a director of Tourist Services Limited. War service Horne joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1940, serving in No 2 Ground Reconnaissance Squadron as an Acting Flight Sergeant. He left the Air Force in 1946. Douglas Strawbridge
Douglas Nelson Strawbridge (21 October 1908 – 6 December 1979) served as Mayor of Nelson, New Zealand from 1962 to 1968. Strawbridge was born, the son of Charles James Strawbridge and Martha Annie Strawbridge. He attended Nelson College Nelson College is the oldest state secondary school in New Zealand. It is an all-boys school in the City of Nelson that teaches from years 9 to 13. In addition, it runs a private preparatory school for year 7 and 8 boys. The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was a commemorative medal awarded in New Zealand in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and was awarded to approximately 3,000 people. Background The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was instituted by Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 9 February 1990. It was to be awarded only during 1990 to about 3,000 people selected in recognition of the contribution they have made to some aspect of New Zealand life, especially the various 1990 celebrations. Subsequently 3,632 medals were awarded. The medal is known as the Sesquicentennial Medal, because it was issued on the 150th anniversary of signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by representatives of the British Crown and various Māori chiefs from the North Island of New Zealand on 6 February 1840. The Queen's Service Order, established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office".
