Tiwi, officially the Municipality of Tiwi ( bcl, Banwaan kan Tiwi; tl, Bayan ng Tiwi) is a 1st class municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Provinces of the Philippines, Province of Albay, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 56,444 people. Etymology Friars called the place ''Tigbi'', which evolved into ''Tivi'' and, then, finally to its present name ''Tiwi''. History Tiwi began as a ''barrio'' of Malinao, Albay, Malinao before it was formally organized as a politically independent ''pueblo'' in 1696. Ṭīwī ( ar, طيوي) is a town in Oman. It is known for an archaeological site in the area known as al-Jurayf, in Ṣūr Wilayat Sharqiyah. The town and the site are located between Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi on the Gulf of Oman. Archaeological site This fortified village was inhabited in the Samad Late Iron Age and during Islamic times. It is known as Tiwi site TW2 (22°49'14.38"N, 59°15'34.00"E, 75 m altitude). The archaeological site lies inside the cusp of a mountain and contains surface finds attributable to the Samad Late Iron Age It lies 700 m west of the coast. Hidden behind the easternmost cusp of a volcanic wall, this settlement is little visible from the sea or the nearby coastal road. It was mapped and surveyed in 2002. Tiwi is a northern suburb of the city of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The suburb is bounded by Trower Road, Henbury Avenue and a coastal strip, separating Casuarina Beach and Lee Point Beach. It is in the Local Government Area of City of Darwin. The Tiwi people (or Tunuvivi) are one of the many Aboriginal groups of Australia. Nearly 2,000 Tiwi people live on Bathurst and Melville Islands, which make up the Tiwi Islands, lying about from Darwin.
