The Weekend (Canadian Band)
The Weekend was a pop rock band from London, Ontario, Canada. The Weekend has lent its music to feature film soundtracks (''Freaky Friday'', ''Uptown Girls'', '' D.E.B.S.'') and television shows such as '' The Simple Life 2'' and ''Mary-Kate and Ashley's So Little Time''. The band name led fellow Canadian musician The Weeknd to spell his name without the last “e”, to avoid copyright issues. History Co-founders Andrea Wasse (vocals, chief songwriter) and Link C.(synthesizer, programming) were in high school when they formed the band with Lorien Jones (bass) and Mike Clive (drums). Their first performance was in 1998. Originally a swing band who were part of the 90's swing revival, the band reoriented towards pop and power pop. Its second performance was as an opening act for an audience of over 500 people. London, Ontario
London (pronounced ) is a city in southwestern Ontario, Canada, along the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. The city had a population of 422,324 according to the 2021 Canadian census. Canadian Idol
''Canadian Idol'' is a Canadian reality television competition show which aired on CTV, based on the British show '' Pop Idol''. The show was a competition to find the most talented young singer in Canada, and was hosted by Ben Mulroney. Jon Dore was the "roving reporter" for the first three seasons (appearing in comedy skits throughout the show). Elena Juatco (a season 2 contestant) assumed the role for season four, Dave Kerr had the role in season five and Jully Black in season six. The show began with a cross-Canada tour in which singers audition in front of four judges: Jake Gold of Toronto, Sass Jordan of Montreal, Quebec, Zack Werner of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Farley Flex of Ajax, Ontario. Eventually the performers were narrowed down to 10 finalists (11 in season one due to a near-tie), with each competitor performing live. Joy (Fefe Dobson Album)
''Joy'' is the second studio album released by Canadian singer-songwriter Fefe Dobson, and third studio album to be recorded. It was released on November 22, 2010 on Island Records in Canada and November 30, 2010 on 21 Music in the United States after taking almost four years to complete. It candidly follows Dobson's evolution as an artist as well as transition from the indie type of music she originally put together for ''Joy'', to the mainstream pop hits. The album was preceded by the release of the two buzz singles "Watch Me Move" and "I Want You", which were then followed-up by the three top 20 official singles " Ghost", " Stuttering" and " Can't Breathe", all of which have at least one music video. Fefe Dobson
Felicia Lily Dobson (born February 28, 1985) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she began performing as a teenager, during which time she received and refused an offer from Jive Records for a recording contract. Dobson signed with Island/Def Jam soon after and released her self-titled debut album (2003), which saw the success of the singles " Bye Bye Boyfriend" and " Don't Go (Girls and Boys)" on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and for which she received two Juno Award nominations. ASCAP
The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) () is an American not-for-profit performance-rights organization (PRO) that collectively licenses the public performance rights of its members' musical works to venues, broadcasters, and digital streaming services (music stores). ASCAP collects licensing fees from users of music created by ASCAP members, then distributes them back to its members as royalties. In effect, the arrangement is the product of a compromise: when a song is played, the user does not have to pay the copyright holder directly, nor does the music creator have to bill a radio station for use of a song. Un-Cut were a British group from Manchester, England, composed of Darren Lewis and Iyiola Babalola from the music production duo Future Cut, and vocalist Jenna Gibbons (Jenna G). Prior to forming Un-Cut, their first collaboration was in 2001 with the Future Cut single "Obsession", which was released through drum and bass label Metalheadz. Pop-rock
