''The Porter from Maxim's'' (French: ''Le Chasseur de chez Maxim's'') is a 1953 French comedy film directed by Henri Diamant-Berger and starring Yves Deniaud, Pierre Larquey and Raymond Bussières. It is based on the 1923 play of the same name which has been made into several film adaptations.Rearick p.245 It was shot at the Neuilly Studios and on location in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Roger Briaucourt. Henri Diamant-Berger
Henri Diamant-Berger (9 June 1895 – 7 May 1972) was a French director, producer and screenwriter. In a career that lasted more than 50 years, he directed 48 films between 1913 and 1959, produced 17 between 1925 and 1967 and wrote 21 screenplays between 1916 and 1971. Biography Born in Paris, to a Jewish family, he studied to be a lawyer but was drawn to the motion picture business. He began his career when he co-directed the 1913 silent film short ''De film... en aiguilles'' with André Heuzé. In addition to writing screenplays, during the period from 1916 to 1919, Diamant-Berger also published and edited a film magazine and books about the movies. In 1918, he was hired by Pathé and sent to the United States to help set up the company's film laboratory at Fort Lee, New Jersey. Porter (carrier)
A porter, also called a bearer, is a person who carries objects or cargo for others. The range of services conducted by porters is extensive, from shuttling luggage aboard a train (a railroad porter) to bearing heavy burdens at altitude in inclement weather on multi-month mountaineering expeditions. They can carry items on their backs (backpack) or on their heads. The word "porter" derives from the Latin ''portare'' (to carry). The use of humans to transport cargo dates to the ancient world, prior to domesticating animals and development of the wheel. Historically it remained prevalent in areas where slavery was permitted, and exists today where modern forms of mechanical conveyance are impractical or impossible, such as in mountainous terrain, or thick jungle or forest cover. Nicole Riche
Nicole Rischmann (1 November 1925 – 26 May 1990), better known by her stage name of Nicole Riche, was a French stage and film actress. Riche was born in November 1925 in Villeneuve-le-Roi, France. In 1950 she starred in a French stage adaptation of '' No Orchids for Miss Blandish'' which a review in ''Carrefour'' called a masterpiece. ''Time'' described her performance as "two hours in panties and a bra, successfully pursued by drooling Gangster Slim Grisson". Riche disappeared between acts during one of the performances which was canceled and the audience was given their money back. A letter was found in her dressing room condemning her for appearing in an "immoral" production. She appeared two days later stating that she had been kidnapped, released and was found by gypsies in a woods. The story was dismissed by the police as "poppycock" .
