The Last House On The Left (2009 Film)
''The Last House on the Left'' is a 2009 American revenge horror-thriller film directed by Dennis Iliadis and written by Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca. It is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name, with both films indebted to Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring (1960), and stars Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Garret Dillahunt, Aaron Paul, Spencer Treat Clark, Martha MacIsaac, and Sara Paxton. The film follows the parents (Goldwyn and Potter) of Mari Collingwood (Paxton), who attempt to get revenge on a group of strangers, led by a man named Krug (Dillahunt), that have taken shelter at their home during a thunderstorm. A splatter film is a subgenre of horror films that deliberately focuses on graphic portrayals of wikt:gore, gore and graphic violence. Mari Collingwood
Mari Collingwood is a fictional character in ''The Last House on the Left'' films. She first appears in ''The Last House on the Left'' (1972) as a hippie girl abducted on her seventeenth birthday by a fugitive family. Conceptualized by Wes Craven, she was portrayed by a twenty-two-year-old Sandra Peabody in one of her early film appearances. ''The Virgin Spring'' ( sv, Jungfrukällan) is a 1960 Swedish rape and revenge film directed by Ingmar Bergman. Set in medieval Sweden, it is a tale about a father's merciless response to the rape and murder of his young daughter. The story was adapted by screenwriter Ulla Isaksson from a 13th-century Swedish ballad, " Töres döttrar i Wänge" ("Töre's daughters in Vänge"). Bergman researched the legend of Per Töre with an eye to an adaptation, considering an opera before deciding on a film version.
