''The House on Sorority Row'' (also known as ''House of Evil'' in the United Kingdom) is a 1982 American slasher film written and directed by Mark Rosman, produced by John G. Clark, and starring Eileen Davidson and Kathryn McNeil. The plot follows a group of sorority sisters being stalked and murdered during their graduation party after they conceal a fatal prank against their house mother. Partly inspired by the 1955 French film '' Les Diaboliques'', first-time writer-director Rosman wrote the screenplay for the film in 1980, then titled ''Seven Sisters''. The film was shot on location in Pikesville, Maryland in the summer months of 1980, with additional photography taking place in Los Angeles. In November 1982, it received a limited regional theatrical release before expanding on January 21, 1983. Mark Rosman
Mark Rosman (born August 15, 1957) is an American film director, film producer, television director and screenwriter. Background Rosman is the son of a Beverly Hills dermatologist. He has a brother, a lawyer, and a sister. After graduating from Beverly Hills High School, Rosman went to UCLA but left after two years when he wasn't accepted into the film program there. Rosman was accepted into New York University's film program, where he graduated. Career During his senior year at NYU, he worked as a voluntary assistant director on Brian De Palma's '' Home Movies''. Rosman launched his career with ''The House on Sorority Row''. Rosman was originally hired to direct the 1984 horror film ''Mutant'', but was replaced by John Cardos early in the production after the studio objected to the way he was shooting the film. Squatting is the action of occupying an abandoned or unoccupied area of land or a building, usually residential, that the squatter does not own, rent or otherwise have lawful permission to use. Establishing Shot
An establishing shot in filmmaking and television production sets up, or establishes, the context for a scene by showing the relationship between its important figures and objects. It is generally a long or extreme-long shot at the beginning of a scene indicating where, and sometimes when, the remainder of the scene takes place. Establishing shots were more common during the classical era of filmmaking than they are now. Today's filmmakers tend to skip the establishing shot in order to move the scene along more quickly, or merely mention the setting in on-screen text (as is done in the ''Law & Order'' franchise). ''Home Movies'' is a 1979 independent film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Kirk Douglas, Nancy Allen, Vincent Gardenia, Keith Gordon, Theresa Saldana, and Gerrit Graham. De Palma had been teaching film at his alma mater Sarah Lawrence College, and conceived this project as a hands-on training exercise for his students. They were given the primary responsibilities of raising money, arranging the shooting schedule, and editing the film, all under De Palma's supervision. Henri-Georges Clouzot (; 20 November 1907 – 12 January 1977) was a French film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best remembered for his work in the thriller film genre, having directed ''The Wages of Fear'' and '' Les Diaboliques'', which are critically recognized as among the greatest films of the 1950s. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, a form of artificial ventilation, is the act of assisting or stimulating respiration in which a rescuer presses their mouth against that of the victim and blows air into the person's lungs. Artificial respiration takes many forms, but generally entails providing air for a person who is not breathing or is not making sufficient respiratory effort on their own. It is used on a patient with a beating heart or as part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to achieve the internal respiration.
