The Gate (1987 Film)
''The Gate'' is a 1987 supernatural horror film directed by Tibor Takács and starring Stephen Dorff in his film debut. The film follows two young boys who accidentally release a horde of demons from their backyard through a large hole in the ground. An international co-production between Canada and the United States, the film was released by the New Century Vista Film Company and grossed around twice its budget. Since its release, it has obtained a cult following and was followed by a sequel in 1990 titled '' The Gate II: Trespassers''. A 3D-remake directed by Alex Winter was in production; it was initially set for a release in 2011, but no release occurred at that time. Tibor Takács (director)
Tibor Takács is a Hungarian-Canadian director, noted for directing '' The Gate'' (1987) and its sequel, '' The Gate II: Trespassers'' (1990). His career has largely been associated with horror movies, though he has also directed many Christmas-themed films, often for the Hallmark Channel. He also directed the TV movie ''Sabrina the Teenage Witch'' which became the basis for the TV series of the same name. Early life Takács was born on September 11, 1954 in Budapest, Hungary, but grew up in Canada. Creature suits are realistic costumes used to disguise a performer as an animal, monster, or other being. They are used in film, television, or as costumed characters in live events. Unlike mascots, they are often made with a high degree of realism. In contrast with prosthetic makeup, which is applied to an actor's skin, the wearer is not normally visible outside their movements controlling the costume, although in some cases, part of the wearer's body is still visible (such as in the case of mermaids or other half-human monsters). Forced perspective is a technique that employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It manipulates human visual perception through the use of scaled objects and the correlation between them and the vantage point of the spectator or camera.
