Tampere Light Rail
The Tampere light rail ( fi, Tampereen raitiotie), branded as Tampere Tram ( fi, Tampereen Ratikka), is a public transport system in Tampere, Finland. In November 2016, the Tampere city council approved plans to construct a 330-million-euro light rail system on the route from the city centre to Hervanta and to the Tampere University Hospital. Traffic on the first two lines of the route (lines 1 and 3) began on 9 August 2021. An extension from the city centre to Lentävänniemi is also under construction. It is aimed to be finished in 2024. Along the route to Lentävänniemi, an artificial island called ''Näsisaari'' ("Näsi Island") near the shore of Lake Näsijärvi is also under construction, and it is planned to be mainly serve the structure of light rail. There is also an extension under construction from Pyynikintori to Santalahti, which is scheduled to open in 2023. Hämeenkatu
Hämeenkatu is the main street of Tampere, Finland, located in the city center. The boulevard is roughly a kilometre long, and wide (driveway and sidewalk) at its widest point. Hämeenkatu is a boulevard, which begins from the east at the Tampere railway station, continues westward to the Hämeenpuisto park, and is covered with cobble stones for its entire length. The street also contains the Hämeensilta bridge crossing the Tammerkoski rapids with gorgeous views on both sides. The bridge that Hämeenkatu runs across Tammerkoski is decorated with four human statues, one at each corner of the bridge. Of these statues, three represent men and one represents a woman. Eastwards from the railway station, Hämeenkatu is followed by the -long Itsenäisyydenkatu, which then diverges into Sammonkatu and Teiskontie. Turku Light Rail
The Turku tramway network was the first—and until the 2021 opening of Tampere Light Rail, second to last—tram system to be operated in Finland. It was operated as horse tramway from 1890 until 1892, and as an electrified tramway from 1908 until 1972. Prior to 1919 the tram system was owned by private interests, and from that year onwards by the City of Turku until closure of the system. The possible recreation of the tram network and/or a creation of a light rail network have been discussed since the (second) closure of the tram system in 1972. In December 2009 the Turku City Council made the decision that a light rail system ( fi, pikaraitiotie, "fast tramway") system would be realised in the city after an intermediate phase of bus rapid transit. Lielahti
Lielahti ( sv, Lielax) is a suburb in the city of Tampere, Finland, with important industrial and commercial facilities. Lielahti was annexed to the city in 1950 from Ylöjärvi parish. Lielahti lies about 7 kilometres west from the city centre. The most prominent sight when arriving Lielahti is maybe the M-real pulp mill, which can sometimes also be sensed nasally. There is also a railway station in Lielahti, but its use in passenger traffic was discontinued in 1984 due to its lack of passengers. It remains though as a freight station used to transport pulp even today, and its most important function is as a railway junction, since the railway tracks from Pori (Björneborg) and Seinäjoki merge there, continuing as a double-track railway to the main station of Tampere. Hervantajärvi (district)
Hervantajärvi is the southernmost district of the Tampere city in Pirkanmaa, Finland, located about eight kilometers southeast of the city center. It is bordered on the west by Vuores and on the north by Ruskontie, on the north by Hervanta and Rusko. In the east the border is between Kangasala and in the south against Lempäälä. The district is named after Lake Hervanta in the area, which is partly on the Lempäälä side. Pyynikki ( sv, Pynike) is a district and a nature reserve in Tampere, Finland. It is located in the Pyynikinharju ridge, between the city center and the western district of Pispala. Pirkkala (; sv, Birkala) is a municipality of Finland. It is located some south-west from Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region. Kauppi (district)
Kauppi is an eastern part of the city of Tampere, Finland. It is part of larger Sampo district. The area is mostly forested and there are ' that are cross-country ski trails in winter. The Kauppi Sports Center has a sports stadium, a greyhound track, a ski lodge, a baseball field and football pitches. Sorin Aukio
The Sori Square ( fi, Sorin aukio) is a square located in the center of Tampere, Finland, in the southern part of the Kyttälä district. It is located in the area bounded by the Hatanpää Highway, Suvantokatu, Tuomiokirkonkatu and Vuolteenkatu. At the eastern end of the square is the Tampere Orthodox Church from 1898. There is a terminus at Tampere Tram Line 1 on the west side. The square was built in the 1980s, and its artistic composition was by sculptor Harry Kivijärvi. In the square is his 10 meter sculpture called ''Pirkka''. Kivijärvi has also designed the area's lamps, benches and trash bins, as well as a mosaic-decorated water basin in the northern corner of the square. The work was completed in the autumn of 1987.
