Télétoon
Télétoon (stylized in all caps) is a Canadian French language specialty channel owned by Corus Entertainment that broadcasts animated series aimed at kids, teens, and adults. Its name is a portmanteau of " télévision" and "cartoon". Télétoon was launched on September 8, 1997, as a bilingual service owned by Teletoon Canada, Inc.; a consortium of Western International Communications and Astral Media (via their specialty channel Family Channel), Shaw Communications (via its specialty channel YTV), and the animation studios Cinar and Nelvana. With subsequent acquisitions and divestments, Corus became the sole owner in 2014. Télétoon's English-language counterpart, which launched in October 1997 as "Teletoon", would later be relaunched by Corus as a Canadian version of Cartoon Network on March 27, 2023. Télétoon La Nuit
Télétoon la nuit (branded as TÉLÉTOON la Nuit; formerly Le détour sur Télétoon and Télétoon Dechaîne!, then Télétoon Détour) is a Canadian French language late night programming block that targets older teen and adult audiences which airs from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. ET every night on the Canadian television channel Télétoon. Launched in September 2002, the block was originally the French version of the English-language Teletoon's Teletoon at Night block (prior to the English block being discontinued and succeeded by the newly-launched Adult Swim channel on April 1, 2019). Like its English counterpart, Télétoon la nuit originated as two separate blocks: "Le Détour sur Télétoon" was geared towards older adolescents, while "Télétoon Dechaîne!" was intended for adults. La Chaîne Disney is a Canadian French-language specialty channel owned by Teletoon Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment under license from The Walt Disney Company, and launched on September 1, 2015, replacing Télétoon Rétro. It is a localized version of the U.S. subscription network Disney Channel, broadcasting live-action and animated programming aimed at children in French in Canada. Astral Media
Astral Media Inc. was a Canadian media conglomerate. It was Canada's largest radio broadcaster, with 84 radio stations in eight provinces. Astral was also a major player in premium and specialty television in Canada, with 23 specialty channels and two conventional stations. In addition, Astral had a presence in out-of-home advertising. In March 2012, Bell Media announced its intent to acquire Astral for $3.38 billion. Although an attempt to purchase the entirety of the company was blocked under competition law, the CRTC approved a revised offer on June 27, 2013, which saw various Astral specialty channels and radio stations divested to competitors. WIC Western International Communications Ltd. (or WIC) was a Canadian media company that operated from 1982 to 2000, with operations including broadcast and specialty television, radio, and satellite distribution via a majority interest in Canadian Satellite Communications (or Cancom). The company itself was acquired by CanWest Global Communications, which kept most of WIC's broadcast television stations and a variety of related television production assets. As a result of a takeover battle leading up to the acquisition, Shaw Communications assumed WIC's interest in Cancom, while a separate company owned by the same Shaw family, Corus Entertainment, acquired various radio stations and specialty services. Boomerang is a Canadian English language discretionary specialty channel owned by Corus Entertainment. It is a licensed version of the U.S. channel of the same name, which primarily broadcasts animated programming from the Warner Bros. Animation library, including Warner Bros. YTV (stylized as УTV) is a Television in Canada, Canadian English language Discretionary service, discretionary specialty channel owned by YTV Canada, Inc. a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment. Its name was originally thought to be an abbreviation for "Youth Television", though the channel's website has denied this.
