Twilight Of A Hero
''Twilight of a Hero'' was a 1962 Australian radio play by Patricia Hooker. It was her first radio play. The play was the ABC's entry into the Italia Prize and was performed on the BBC. The BBC production was heard in the US and Canada. ''The Age'' said it was "difficult stuff to tackle but it worked out quite well". The play was produced again in 1963, 1966, 1970 and 1974. Leslie Rees said in this and other Hooker plays, ''Concord of Sweet Sounds'' and ''A Season in Hell (Wednesday Theatre), Season in Hell'', "the main preoccupation of the author was a vision of the torment of life—the study of pride, possessive love, ambition, jealousy, intense personal worship, acting between two or more emotion-torn human beings of special accomplishment, with keen analysis of the motives involved." Patricia Hooker
''Patricia Hooker'' (17 February 1933 – 2001) was an Australian writer who worked extensively in England. She wrote for TV, radio and the stage. She wrote ''The Golden Road'', the first play on British television that was both written by a woman and about a lesbian relationship. Hooker also wrote ''A Season in Hell'' the first Australian television drama to focus on a queer relationship. Biography She grew up in the town of Port Lincoln in South Australia and trained as a stenographer. She began writing in her spare time and her work began appearing in amateur theatres. She worked as a secretary at the Stevedoring Commission in Sydney and also as a court reporter. Hooker was working as a shorthand typist in a city office in 1959 when she wrote the story for ''The Little Woman'' at home in the evenings. The Prix Italia is an international television, radio-broadcasting and web award. "A Season in Hell" aired on 1 April 1964 in Sydney, on 22 April 1964 in Brisbane, and on 29 April 1964 in Melbourne. It was arguably the first depiction of a gay relationship in Australian TV drama.
