Turkey Men's National Curling Team
Curling is a minor sport in Turkey. It is governed by the Turkish Ice Skating Federation and has been a member of the World Curling Federation since 2009. The country has one dedicated curling venue, the Milli Piyango Curling Arena in Erzurum. Turkey is ranked 39th in the world in men's curling and 31st in women's. As of November 2012, there are around 180 licensed curlers in the country, of which 120 are playing actively. Turkey has already hosted four international tournaments, the 2011 Winter Universiade, the 2012 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, the 2012 European Mixed Curling Championship and the European Curling Championships – Group C competitions. Leagues The Turkish Ice Skating Federation increased the number of curling leagues setting up the Second Curling League in the 2012-13 season. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. Alican KarataÅŸ (born 9 September 1991) is a Turkish curler, and member of the Turkey men's national curling team. He began curling at Sital Spor in Ankara in 2009. KarataÅŸ curled with the Turkish national team, which captured the gold medal at the 5th Debrecen Bonspiel. Muhammet Oǧuz Zengin
Muhammet Oğuz Zengin, or simply Oğuz Zengin, is a Turkish curler, and member of the Turkey men's national curling team. He is student at Atatürk University in Erzurum and plays in the university team. At the 2011 European Curling Championships-Group C competition held in Tårnby Denmark, he was the lead in the team, which won the bronze medal. 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship – Qualification Event
The qualification event of the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from November 3 to 8, 2012 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland, which hosted the qualification tournaments for the past two World Wheelchair Curling Championships. The qualification event was open to any World Curling Federation affiliated national team not already qualified. The event's two top finishers, Norway and Finland, will join the top 8 finishers from the last World Wheelchair Curling Championship at this season's event in Sochi, Russia.
