Turkey River (New Hampshire)
The Turkey River is a stream located in southern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Merrimack River, which flows to the Gulf of Maine. The source of the Turkey River is the outlet of Little Turkey Pond in Concord, New Hampshire. The river travels southeast through the campus of St. Paul's School, winding through the outskirts of Concord, and entering Bow before joining the Merrimack near the junction of Interstate 93 and Interstate 89. In May 2006 record amounts of rainfall over two days caused the Turkey River to flood the campus of St. Paul's School, forcing the school year to be ended prematurely. Turkey Vulture
The turkey vulture (''Cathartes aura'') is the most widespread of the New World vultures. One of three species in the genus '' Cathartes'' of the family Cathartidae, the turkey vulture ranges from southern Canada to the southernmost tip of South America. It inhabits a variety of open and semi-open areas, including subtropical forests, shrublands, pastures, and deserts. Like all New World vultures, it is not closely related to the Old World vultures of Europe, Africa, and Asia. However, the two groups strongly resemble each other due to convergent evolution. The turkey vulture is a scavenger and feeds almost exclusively on carrion. It finds its food using its keen eyes and sense of smell, flying low enough to detect the gasses produced by the early stages of decay in dead animals. The turkey moray (''Gymnothorax meleagris''),also known as the guineafowl moray or as the white-mouth/whitemouth moray is a species of marine fish in the family Muraenidae. Description The turkey moray is a medium size moray which can reach a maximum length of 120 cm, but specimens usually encountered are much smaller. Its serpentine in shape body has a dark brown to black background color dotted with numerous small white spots uniformly distributed. The inside of its mouth is completely white. Distribution and habitat The white-mouth moray is widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific area from eastern coast of Africa, Red Sea included, until Polynesia and Hawaii and from south Japan to New Caledonia. Little Turkey (c. 1758–1801) was First Beloved Man of the Cherokee people. In 1794, he became the first Principal Chief of the original Cherokee Nation. Headman Little Turkey, born in about 1758, was elected First Beloved Man by the general council of the Cherokee upon their re-establishment of the council's seat at Ustanali on the Conasauga River. This was after the murder of Corntassel in 1788. The United States recognized his rival, Hanging Maw of Coyatee, as the Cherokees' leading headman. But the larger part of the Cherokee, including the Lower Cherokee who followed Dragging Canoe, recognized Little Turkey as leader. History ''Turkey'' was a coastal minesweeper of the United States Navy laid down as ''YMS-444'' on 16 November 1943 at Kingston, New York, by C. Hiltebrant Dry Dock Co., Inc.; launched on 20 July 1944; and commissioned on 26 December 1944. ''YMS-444'' completed fitting out at New York and, in January 1945, made a shakedown voyage to Little Creek, Virginia.
