Tunisia Women's National Rugby Sevens Team
The Tunisian women's national rugby union sevens team is Tunisia's representative in women's rugby sevens. Tunisia competed at the 2020 Women's Rugby Sevens Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. They placed fourth at the 2019 Africa Women's Sevens but because South Africa declined an Olympics qualification, Kenya earned the automatic qualifying spot which allowed Madagascar and Tunisia to compete at the final Olympic Qualification Tournament. Carthage
Carthage was an ancient city in Northern Africa, on the eastern side of the Lake of Tunis in what is now Tunisia. Rugby Union At The Summer Olympics
Rugby union has been a men's medal sport at the modern Summer Olympic Games, being played at four of the first seven competitions. The sport debuted at the 1900 Paris games where the gold medal was won by the host nation. It was subsequently featured at the London games in 1908, the Antwerp games in 1920 and the Paris games in 1924. Shortly after the 1924 games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) dropped rugby union as an Olympic sport. Since then there have been numerous attempts to bring the sport back to the Olympic programme. In October 2009 the IOC voted at its session in Copenhagen to include the sevens version of the sport in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 2018 Africa Women's Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Gaborone, Botswana on 26–27 May 2018. The 2017 Women's Africa Cup Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Monastir, Tunisia on 16–17 September 2017. This tournament served as a qualifier for two tournaments, only the winner qualifies for next years 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, whereas the top two teams qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will also be held the following year. South Africa won the tournament and qualified for the Sevens World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, runner-up, Kenya, qualified for the latter. The 2015 Women's Africa Cup Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament for the continental championship of Africa and a qualification tournament for rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Africa Women's Sevens is the continental championship for women's international rugby sevens in Africa. The tournament sanctioned and sponsored by Rugby Africa (previously CAR) which is the rugby union governing body for the continent. Rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 26 July to 31 July 2021 at the Tokyo Stadium. 24 teams (12 each for men and women) competed in the tournament. The dates were modified due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 games as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Competition The men's and women's rugby sevens competitions took place at Tokyo Stadium, a 2019 Rugby World Cup host venue. The men's sessions took place July 26–28 with the women's sessions happening July 29–31, 2021. Changes In a reverse to the 2016 schedule, the men's competition was played first over three days from July 27–29 with the women's competition taking place from July 30 through August 1 and culminating with the gold medal session.
