Trần Đại Nghĩa High School For The Gifted
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted () is an academically selective public high school for talented and gifted students from grade 6 to 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Established in 2000, the school was the first partially state-funded, semi-boarding school specialized in various subjects, especially foreign languages, in Ho Chi Minh City. The school requires a highly competitive entrance exam for admission (with less than 7% acceptance rate). Establishment Founded in 2000, the school was named after Professor Trần Đại Nghĩa, a scientist and engineer who invented the SKZ recoilless rifle, as well as redesigning captured weapons to adapt to use among Vietnamese troops during the Vietnam War. Trần Đại Nghĩa (13 September 1913 – 9 August 1997) was a Vietnamese scientist, military engineer, and prominent figure in the defense industry of Vietnam. He held the rank of major-general and was recognized as both a military officer and an academician. He was awarded the Order of Ho Chi Minh and honored as a Hero of Labor. He was also elected as an Academician of the former USSR Academy of Sciences. Early life Trần Đại Nghĩa was born Phạm Quang Lễ in Chánh Hiệp, Tam Bình commune, Vĩnh Long Province, to a poor but educated family on 13 September 1913., He received a bachelor's degree in 1933 in Hanoi.
