Transwa
Transwa is Western Australia's regional public transport provider, linking 240 destinations, from Kalbarri in the north to Augusta in the south west to Esperance in the south east. The Transwa system provides transport between Perth and the major regional towns of Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Northam, Geraldton and Albany. Transwa is a part of the Public Transport Authority and was launched on 28 May 2003, replacing the former Western Australian Government Railways Commission. The ''AvonLink'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between Midland railway station, Perth, Midland and Northam railway station, Western Australia, Northam. History The consideration of revitalising passenger services in 1993 saw the ''Avonlink Ministerial Committee'' formed by Minister for Transport Eric Charlton. Bunbury Railway Station
Bunbury Terminal (also known as Bunbury Passenger Terminal) is a train and bus station for Transwa services. The terminal is located in East Bunbury, Western Australia. It is the terminus station for the ''Australind'' train service to/from Perth along the South Western line. It was built as a replacement for the more centrally located station, being opened on 29 May 1985 by Minister for Transport Julian Grill. Midland Railway Station, Perth
Midland railway station is the terminus of the Midland line in Perth. Western Australia. It is operated by Transperth and is connected with the feeder bus services that utilise the adjacent bus terminal in Midland. History Midland station was opened on 8 October 1968 by Minister for Transport & Railways Ray O'Connor as a replacement for Midland Junction station when the main Eastern Railway was being converted to dual gauge. It originally had four narrow gauge platform faces, platform 1 at the southern side allowed through-running for regional services, while platforms 2-4 were terminating tracks. In the 1990s, the track was removed from platform 4 at the northern side. Initially, a separate platform was provided for the standard gauge line approximately 150 metres away to the west. ''The Prospector'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between East Perth railway station, East Perth and Kalgoorlie railway station, Kalgoorlie. On this service, two trains depart almost at the same time in opposite directions. One travels between East Perth and Kalgoorlie, the other between Kalgoorlie and East Perth with crew changeover occurring in Merredin, Western Australia, Merredin. The original vehicles ordered in 1968 for trains providing this service were replaced in 2004 with vehicles capable of reducing journey times to 6 hours 45 minutes. The ''MerredinLink'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between East Perth railway station, East Perth and Merredin railway station, Merredin. History The ''MerredinLink'' was introduced in June 2004 when the ''AvonLink'' from East Perth railway station, East Perth was extended from Northam railway station, Western Australia, Northam to Merredin railway station, Merredin on three days a week. In August 2013, Transwa announced that the ''MerredinLink'' would cease with ''The Prospector (train), The Prospector'' to make additional stops. However in December 2013 the service was given a reprieve. In May 2014, it was announced that the service would continue until at least June 2017. Kalgoorlie Railway Station
Kalgoorlie railway station is the easternmost attended station in Western Australia, located at the eastern terminus of the Eastern Goldfields Railway. It serves the city of Kalgoorlie. Beyond Kalgoorlie, the line continues east as the Trans-Australian Railway. Establishment Construction of the railway station and yard was begun in the late 1890s, as part of the extension of the Eastern Goldfields Railway from Coolgardie in January 1897. The Public Transport Centre (formerly known as the Westrail Centre) is a terminal and administration building for public transport in Perth, Western Australia. Merredin railway station is located on the Eastern Goldfields Railway in Western Australia. It is in the town of Merredin. History The original Merredin station opened in 1895. It was an important station on the Eastern Goldfields Railway, being the junction station for a number of lines to locations in the Wheatbelt (Western Australia), Wheatbelt and Western Australian Goldfields, Goldfields regions. Australind (train)
The ''Australind'' is a currently suspended rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa on the South Western Railway between Perth and Bunbury. The ''Australind'' was suspended in November 2023 due to the shutdown of the Armadale line for upgrading, and pending retirement of the current rolling stock. The route has been replaced by coach bus services until mid-2025. History The ''Australind'' service began on 24 November 1947 and was hauled initially by U class steam locomotives. With an average speed of , it was the fastest narrow gauge passenger train in Australia. It was named to commemorate the city of that name envisioned by Marshall Waller Clifton on Leschenault Inlet 100 years previously.
