Transamazonia
''Transamazonia'' is a 2024 coming-of-age film directed by Pia Marais, who co-wrote the screenplay with Willem Droste. The film stars Helena Zengel as the daughter of an American missionary in the Amazon rainforest, played by Jeremy Xido, who claims that his daughter is a faith healer. Premise As a child, Rebecca is rescued from a plane crash in the Amazon rainforest by a member of a nearby Indigenous tribe. Now a teenager, she is well known in the area as her father, American missionary Lawrence Byrne, claims that she is a faith healer. Rebecca's misgivings about her situation are compounded by the arrival of illegal loggers poised to disrupt the local way of life. 8th Malaysia International Film Festival

Pia Marais
Pia Marais (born 1971) is a South African filmmaker based in Germany. Early life and education Pia Marais was born in Johannesburg to a Swedish mother and South African father. She lived in South Africa, Sweden, and Spain as a child. Marais studied sculpture and photography in London and Amsterdam as well as at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. She went on to study filmmaking at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin. Career Marais directed four short films at the start of her career: ''Loop'' (1996), ''Deranged'' (1998), ''Tricky People'' (1999), and ''17'' (2003). During this time, she also worked as a casting director and script supervisor. Helena Zengel
Helena Zengel (; born 10 June 2008) is a German actress. She is best known for her roles in the films '' System Crasher'' (2019), ''News of the World'' (2020), and '' The Legend of Ochi'' (2025). Early life Zengel was born and raised in Berlin, Germany, and began her acting career at the age of five in a music video for the Berlin Alternative rock band ''Abby''. Sabine Timoteo (born 25 March 1975) is a Swiss actress from the Lorraine district of Solothurn. She has appeared in more than thirty films since 2000. Early life Timoteo grew up dividing time between the United States and Lausanne, Switzerland. As a trained ballet dancer, she won the Prix de Lausanne at 17 years of age.
