Tour de l'Avenir () is a French road bicycle racing stage race, which started in 1961 as a race similar to the Tour de France and over much of the same course but for amateurs and for semi-professionals known as independents. Felice Gimondi, Joop Zoetemelk, Greg LeMond, Miguel Induráin, Laurent Fignon, Egan Bernal, and Tadej Pogačar won the Tour de l'Avenir and went on to win 16 Tours de France, with an additional 10 podium placings between them. L'Équipe
''L'Équipe'' (, French for "the team") is a French nationwide daily newspaper devoted to sport, owned by Éditions Philippe Amaury. The paper is noted for coverage of association football, rugby, motorsport, and cycling. Its predecessor, ''L'Auto'', was founded by wealthy conservative industrialists to undermine '' Le Vélo'', which they found too progressive. It was a general sports paper that also covered the auto racing which was gaining popularity at the turn of the twentieth century. 2019 Tour De L'Avenir
The 2019 Tour de l'Avenir was the 56th edition of the Tour de l'Avenir, a UCI 2.NCup stage race for riders aged 23 or younger. The race consisted of 10 stages. It started on 15 August in Marmande and concluded on 25 August in La Corbière, with Norwegian Tobias Foss winning the general classification. Race overview A total of 153 riders, from 26 teams participated in the race. There were 23 national teams, two regional teams, and one international team. The Canadian team competed at the event for the first time in eight years. The event consisted of mostly hilly and mountainous stages, with one rest day between stages 6 and 7. Stage 2 of the race was a team time trial. British rider Ethan Hayter won stage 3, before withdrawing from the race after breaking his collarbone on the fourth stage. Castorama was a French professional cycling team that existed from 1990 to 1995 and was sponsored by the French DIY and home improvement retailer Castorama. History The Castorama team traced back to a team that began in 1976 when former French cycling champion Cyrille Guimard retired from the sport and took over as the main directeur sportif of the Gitane–Campagnolo team. Système U () was a French professional cycling team that existed from 1986 to 1988 and rode Gitane racing bikes. In 1989 the team was renamed Super U–Raleigh–Fiat and rode Raleigh bicycles. Super U was a chain of supermarkets owned by the Système U group. Café de Colombia () was a Colombian based professional road bicycle racing Cycling team active from 1983 to 1990. The team was sponsored by the Colombian coffee growers Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia. History The team came into existence just as Colombian cyclists were achieving successes in Europe. This started with a Colombian National Cycling team entering and winning the Tour de l'Avenir in 1980 with Alfonso Flórez. The 1983 Tour de France was the first time that the race was "open" to accommodate amateurs to compete. As a result, the Colombian cyclists were able to compete in a Colombian national cycling team.
