Tornado Outbreak Of March 13–15, 2024
A significant early spring tornado outbreak occurred throughout the Midwestern United States, Midwestern and Northeastern United States, with the most significant impacts occurring in Indiana and Ohio. More than two dozen tornadoes occurred, eight of them strong to intense. National Weather Service offices issued multiple 'Particularly dangerous situation#PDS tornado warning, Particularly Dangerous Situation' tornado warnings. Strong tornadoes produced major damage in the communities of Selma, Indiana, Selma and Winchester, Indiana, Winchester in Indiana, and Fryburg, Ohio, Fryburg and Lakeview, Ohio, Lakeview in Ohio. Winchester, Indiana
Winchester is a city in White River Township, Randolph County, Indiana, United States. The city is the county seat of Randolph County. The population was 4,843 at the 2020 census. It is the home of Winchester Speedway. History Winchester was laid out in 1818 as the county seat. A post office has been in operation at Winchester since 1820. With the discovery of oil in the late 1800s, Winchester became a center for the glass industry. The Gen. Asahel Stone Mansion, Winchester Courthouse Square Historic District, and Winchester Residential Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Selma, Indiana
Selma is a town in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a total population of 747. It is part of the Muncie, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Selma was platted in 1852 when the railroad was extended to that point. The Selma post office was established in 1853. Affected by the Indiana Gas Boom, gas and oil were the primary industries of Selma in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Selma was incorporated as a town in 1907. On March 14, 2024, Selma was hit by a strong EF2 tornado, which mainly hit northern areas of Selma. Selma High School Selma High School was built 1904 and was razed in 1976.
