Billy Toms
William Toms Military Cross, MC (born 19 May 1895, date of death unknown) was an Irish association football, footballer. His regular position was as a Forward (association football), forward. He was born in Curragh. Toms became a professional after the First World War, in which he was awarded the Military Cross, when he broke into Manchester United F.C., Manchester United's first team playing 14 games for them in his first season, but was allowed to leave and joined Plymouth Argyle F.C., Plymouth Argyle for £500 in September 1920. He went on to play for Oldham Athletic F.C., Oldham Athletic, Coventry City F.C., Coventry City, Stockport County F.C., Stockport County, Wrexham A.F.C., Wrexham and Crewe Alexandra F.C., Crewe Alexandra in the Football League. Coventry were the only club where he was successful, which was surprising considering the shambolic state of the club at the time. Vaadakkal Thoppil Thomas (6 June 1929 – 27 April 2016), popularly known as Toms, was an Indian cartoonist from the state of Kerala, who created the cartoon characters Boban and Molly. Early life and career Toms was born to Vaadakkal Thoppil Kunjuthomman Kunjithomman and Sicily Thomas on 6 June 1929 in Kuttanad. He completed his graduation from St. Berchmans College, Changanassery. Later he joined the army as an electrician and left the job soon. He then devoted his career completely to drawing cartoons. His elder brother Peter Thomas was his inspiration behind drawings. Peter was a cartoonist at ''Shankar's Weekly'' at that time. Toms started his career in 1950 through '' Sathyadeepam'', a Catholic weekly and '' Kerala Kaumudi''. Tom's Restaurant is a diner located at 2880 Broadway (on the corner of West 112th Street) in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It is on the ground floor of Columbia University's Armstrong Hall, home to the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Frequented by Columbia students and faculty, it was founded by Tom Glikas in the 1940s and after a sale at some undetermined point has been owned and operated by the Greek-American family of Minas Zoulis, who retained the original name. Senator John McCain often ate at Tom's when he visited his daughter Meghan when she was a student at Columbia. Likewise, Barack Obama frequented the restaurant as a student at Columbia. Tom's Ice Cream Bowl is an ice cream parlor and restaurant in Zanesville, Ohio, founded in 1948 as the Jack Hemmer Ice Cream Company. It is a Zanesville tourist attraction and a cultural icon and institution. History Tom's Ice Cream Bowl was founded in 1948 by cousins Jack Hemmer and Tom Mirgon. The shop was located in a small space on Linden Avenue in Zanesville, Ohio, and was originally named the Jack Hemmer Ice Cream Company. When the Lind skating rink opened in Linden Avenue, in 1948, it was open for Black residents on Mondays. Tom's Ice Cream Bowl was located a few doors away, and not wanting Black people coming from the rink to his parlor, Tom closed the store on Mondays.
