The Togo national football team (French language, French: ''Équipe nationale de football du Togo'') represents Togo in international Association football, football and is controlled by the Togolese Football Federation. The national football team of Togo made their debut in the FIFA World Cup in 2006. Their team bus underwent Togo national football team attack, a fatal attack in Angola prior to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. They withdrew and were subsequently banned from the following two tournaments by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Jean-Paul Abalo
Jean-Paul Yaovi Dosseh Abalo (born 26 June 1975) is a Togolese former footballer who played as a defender. He is the current coach of the Togo national under-20 football team. Club career Abalo played for six seasons in the French Ligue 2 with Amiens SC. He acquired French nationality by naturalization on 29 January 1998 and legally changed his name from Yaovi to Jean-Paul. In 2006, he moved to APOEL in Cyprus, where he won the 2005–06 Cypriot Cup. Whilst at Amiens, Abalo played in the 2001 Coupe de France Final. His penalty miss proved decisive as Amiens lost to Strasbourg. Mohamed Kader
Mohamed Abdel-Kader Coubadja-Touré (born 8 April 1979) is a Togolese former professional footballer who played as a forward. Club career After starting with Étoile Filante de Lomé, he left Togo for CA Bizertin (Tunisia) before landing at AC Parma in Italy in 1998, from where he had loan spells at clubs in Switzerland, Egypt and Italy. In 2003–04 he scored 19 goals in 35 matches for Swiss outfit Servette FC and was elected best Togolese player abroad. Kader also played for En Avant Guingamp in France but left the club in the summer of 2008. International career Kader's star rose in his home country after he scored the late winner in the 1998 African Cup of Nations match against Ghana, thus securing the Togo national team's first ever win at the tournament. Otto Pfister
Otto Martin Pfister (born 24 November 1937) is a German former football manager and one of Germany's most successful coaching exports, voted Africa's ''Manager of the Year'' in 1992. He is formerly the manager of the Afghanistan national team. Coaching career Pfister has been involved in association football for almost 60 years, he began his coaching career in Switzerland as player-coach in 1961 at the age of just 23. Pfister's early coaching experience was gained with FC Vaduz, FC St. Gallen, FC Nordstern Basel, FC Moutier and finally FC Chur 97. He has worked as head coach for 10 international football teams, eight from Africa and two from Asia. Stephen Okechukwu Keshi (23 January 1962 – 7 June 2016) was a Nigerian association football, football player and manager (association football), manager. During his playing career, Keshi played as a defender (association football), defender and earned 60 caps for the Nigeria national football team, Nigeria national team, making him the nation's second-most capped player at the time of his retirement. He represented the country at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, captaining the Super Eagles to victory in the latter. 2010 Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, also known as the Orange Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship reasons, was the 27th Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial football championship of Africa ( CAF). It was held in Angola, where it began on 10 January 2010 and concluded on 31 January. In the tournament, the hosts Angola were to be joined by 15 nations who advanced from the qualification process that began in October 2007 and involved 53 African national teams. Togo National Football Team Attack
A terrorist attack occurred on 8 January 2010 as the Togo national football team traveled through the Angolan province of Cabinda on the way to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, two days before it began in Angola. A little-known offshoot of the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC), a group promoting independence for the province of Cabinda, known as the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda – Military Position (FLEC-PM), claimed responsibility for the attack. Bus driver Mário Adjoua, the team's assistant manager Améleté Abalo, and media officer Stanislas Ocloo were killed, with several others injured.
