Timothy's Quest (1936 Film)
''Timothy's Quest'' is a 1936 American comedy film directed by Charles Barton (director), Charles Barton and written by Virginia Van Upp, Dore Schary and Gilbert Pratt, based on a novel by Kate Douglas Wiggin. The film stars Eleanore Whitney, Tom Keene (actor), Tom Keene, Dickie Moore (actor), Dickie Moore, Virginia Weidler, Elizabeth Patterson (actress), Elizabeth Patterson, Sally Martin and Benny Bartlett. The film was released on January 31, 1936, by Paramount Pictures. Plot Timothy and his sister run away from an orphanage because of the poor treatment they experienced there. They end up together on a farm, where the owner puts Timothy through a series of arduous chores to earn his keep. Charles Barton (director)
Charles Barton (May 25, 1902December 5, 1981) was an American film and vaudeville actor and film director. He won an Academy Awards, Oscar for Academy Award for Best Assistant Director, best assistant director in 1933. His first film as a director was the Zane Grey feature ''Wagon Wheels (film), Wagon Wheels'', starring Randolph Scott, in 1934. Barton worked in Hollywood B-movie units. From 1946, he was a principal director of the Abbott and Costello comedies, such as ''The Time of Their Lives'', ''Buck Privates Come Home,'' ''Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,'' and ''Africa Screams''. He later directed Walt Disney films such as ''The Shaggy Dog (1959 film), The Shaggy Dog'' and ''Toby Tyler''. The genre is one of the oldest in American cinema; some of the first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. Raymond William Hatton (July 7, 1887 – October 21, 1971) was an American film actor who appeared in almost 500 motion pictures. Biography Hatton was born in Red Oak, Iowa. His physician father steered him toward a career in medicine. However, Hatton had become enamored of being on stage after he acted in a school play, and he left home to go into acting as a career. Hatton was part of a vaudeville act that went to Hollywood in 1911. There, he established a successful silent film career, including a stint being paired in 1920s comedies with Wallace Beery. During the sound era, though, his career soon skidded and he usually played smaller supporting roles, including the tobacco-chewing, rowdy character Rusty Joslin in '' The Three Mesquiteers'' Western B picture series. John F. Kelly (June 6, 1901 – December 9, 1947) was an American actor whose career spanned the very end of the silent film era through the 1940s. While most of his parts were smaller, often-uncredited roles, he was occasionally given a more substantial supporting or even featured role. Life and career John F.
