Tillie's Tomato Surprise
''Tillie's Tomato Surprise'' is a 1915 screen sequel to the previous year's '' Tillie's Punctured Romance'' again starring Marie Dressler as Tillie. The film was produced by the Lubin Manufacturing Company, directed by Howell Hansel and written by Acton Davies. The supporting cast features Colin Campbell, Eleanor Fairbanks, Sarah McVicker and Clara Lambert. Originally a six-reel movie, only one reel is known to exist and remains archived at the Library of Congress. A quasi-sequel followed two years later starring Marie Dressler as Tillie for the third time, albeit with a different last name, in ''Tillie Wakes Up''. Howell Hansel
Howell Hansel (1860 – 1917), was an American film director. He directed 26 films between 1913 and 1917. Biography Hansel was born in Indiana, and began his career as a stage actor on the East Coast. Eventually he gave up his acting career to join Thanhauser as a film director; he'd also direct films for Famous Players–Lasky. His output slowed toward the end of his life as he struggled with a prolonged illness. He died in Manhattan in 1917, leaving behind a wife and a daughter. Lubin (; german: Lüben, szl, Lubin) is a city in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in south-western Poland. Siegmund Lubin (born Zygmunt Lubszyński, April 20, 1851 – September 11, 1923) was an American film, motion picture pioneer who founded the Lubin Manufacturing Company (1902–1917) of Philadelphia. Biography Siegmund Lubin was born as Zygmunt Lubszyński, a son of Samuel Lubszyński and Rebeka Lubszyńska, Polish Jews, in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland) or in Poznań on April 20, 1851. His father, a successful Ophthalmology, ophthalmologist, moved the family for economic reasons to Berlin, Germany, Berlin soon after Zygmunt's birth. There young Zygmunt Germanicized the spelling of his first name to ''Siegmund''. He later graduated from the Heidelberg University and in 1876 emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Philadelphia and worked as an optometrist.
