Thomas Jørgensen (speedway Rider)
Thomas Jørgensen (born 14 July 1992, Aalborg, Denmark), is a Danish speedway rider. Speedway career Thomas first came to notice in the United Kingdom in July 2010, whilst a member of the Team Viking touring side. In a meeting against Plymouth he broke the track record and became the first rider to go below 50 seconds. Following a string of impressive performances on that tour Thomas attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs, eventually signing a contract with Scunthorpe Scorpions for the 2011 season. Thomas returned to the United Kingdom late in 2010 for a one off meeting at Scunthorpe where he became winner of the inaugural Rob Woffinden memorial trophy. He stayed at Scunthorpe for four seasons in total, averaging around 7 each year before joining Berwick Bandits for the 2015 Premier League speedway season. Redcar Bears
The Redcar Bears are a British motorcycle speedway team who compete in the SGB Championship (second tier of the British speedway leagues). The club was founded in 2006 and their major team honour to date is the SGB Championship Knockout Cup win in 2019. The team have also run a junior side called the Middlesbrough Tigers (which is not to be confused with the former Middlesbrough club). History Origins and 2000s Speedway in Middlesbrough began at the Cleveland Park Stadium and with a Middlesbrough team (later the Bears) that first competed in the 1929 Speedway English Dirt Track League. The racing took place from 1929 until 1996, when the Cleveland Park Stadium was demolished. The 2023 SGB Championship season (sponsored by Cab Direct) was the 76th season of the second tier of Speedway in the United Kingdom, British Speedway and the 6th known as the SGB Championship. The British Speedway Network (BSN) streamed 35 matches live for the second year running. Summary Nine clubs competed in the Championship in 2023, with Edinburgh Monarchs remaining in the league despite problems surrounding their home venue. The only change to the league was Leicester Lions, who left for the higher league of the SGB Premiership 2023. The league format was the same as in 2022, with each team racing against each other twice (home and away), meaning a total of 16 fixtures each during the season. There was an increase of one team after the Leicester Lions opted to move up from the SGB Championship. Defending champions Belle Vue Aces topped the table, but were knocked out in the playoff semi-finals. Last year's runners-up Sheffield Tigers went on to win the title, beating Ipswich Witches in the Grand Final. The 2022 SGB Premiership was the 87th season of the top tier of British speedway and the 5th known as the SGB Premiership. Sheffield Tigers topped the regular season table and met Belle Vue Aces in the play off final but Belle Vue ran out the winners to claim their 13th league title. 2022 summary The same six clubs as 2021 competed for the league championship, with Swindon once again sitting out due to the development of their stadium. 2015 Premier League Speedway Season
The 2015 Premier League season was the second division of British Motorcycle speedway, speedway. Summary took place between March and October 2015. The Edinburgh Monarchs were the defending champions after winning the championship in 2014. The 13 teams that competed remained unchanged from the teams who competed in 2014. There had been concerns about whether or not the Peterborough Panthers would be able to compete but their future was secured after being able to raise the money necessary to continue racing. In an all-Scottish final, the Edinburgh Monarchs became the first team to win consecutive Premier League titles, by beating the Glasgow Tigers (speedway), Glasgow Tigers in the Grand Final.
