Sir Thomas Dunlop, 1st Baronet
Sir Thomas Dunlop, 1st Baronet (2 August 1855 – 29 January 1938) was a Scotland, Scottish businessman. Life Dunlop was the eldest son of Thomas Dunlop (1831–1893), a grain trade, grain merchant and founder of the shipping company, Thomas Dunlop & Sons, and his wife, Robina Jack. He became a senior partner in his father's company and later a director of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Bruce Peebles Ltd and the Scottish Union and National Insurance Company. In 1914, he became Lord Provost of Glasgow and was created a baronet in 1916 due to this position and appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) in 1918. Dunlop is buried with his family in the Glasgow Necropolis. The grave lies on the southern path of the main upper section. Thomas Dunlop (cricketer)
Sir Thomas Charles Dunlop (4 February 1878 – 13 August 1960) was a Scottish first-class cricketer and administrator, newspaper proprietor, and British Army officer. The son of William Hamilton Dunlop, he was born at Ayr in February 1878. Dunlop was educated firstly at Bilton Grange and latterly at Eton College. In 1900, he succeeded his uncle, A. B. Gemmell, as the publisher of the ''Ayr Advertiser'' following his death, becoming the youngest newspaper proprietor in Scotland. In the same year that he inherited the ''Ayr Advertiser'', he was commissioned into the British Army as a second lieutenant in the Ayrshire (Earl of Carrick's Own) Yeomanry, with promotion to lieutenant coming in October 1907. A club cricketer for Ayr Cricket Club, he made a single appearance in first-class cricket for Scotland against the touring Indians at Galashiels in 1911. Thomas Dunlop (Australian Politician)
Thomas Alberto Dunlop (6 April 1880 – 25 January 1956) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Dunlop was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, the son of John Johnson Dunlop and his wife Helen (née Fleming) and educated at the Central Boys' School in Rockhampton and later J.D. Gillespie's Commercial School. After finishing his education he was a clerk in the office of former member for Rockhampton, George Curtis from 1896 to 1898. He then joined the railways where, except for a short time in 1912, he worked for the rest of his career. In 1912 he was employed in the office of Burns Philp. Thomas Dunlop Galbraith, 1st Baron Strathclyde, PC (20 March 1891 – 12 July 1985), was a Scottish Unionist Party politician. After serving in the Royal Navy, he became a chartered accountant and practised, 1925–70. He was elevated to the peerage in 1955 as Lord Strathclyde (of Barskimming in the County of Ayr), and died three decades later. As his eldest son, Sir Tam Galbraith, died in 1982, the barony was inherited by his grandson Thomas Galbraith, 2nd Baron Strathclyde. Sir Thomas Dunlop, 3rd Baronet, OStJ (11 April 1912 – 18 August 1999) was a Scottish businessman. Life Dunlop was educated at Kelvinside Academy, Craigflower Preparatory School, Shrewsbury School and St John's College, Cambridge. He qualified as a chartered accountant with McClelland Ker & Co and in 1938 became a partner in the family business, Thomas Dunlop & Sons, Shipowners and Insurance Brokers, founded in 1851. He was the fourth generation. During the Second World War he served as a major with the Royal Signals in India and the United Kingdom. He returned to the family business and a succession of appointments in Glasgow.
